Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, July 15, 2024
Page 5
patient should not be afraid of not knowing where they will end up and what they will leave their
family with. As loved ones, we should not have to worry about spending time packing over 11
years of memories when we could be spending that time with my Dad making new ones.
Every minute with him is valuable right now. Every trip to the pool or playground with my kids
is cherished. Every Mother's Day Brunch spent together is remembered. Every car show that we
spend with so many of our close friends and family is a welcomed blessing. This community has
allowed my family to live even in the face of death. My father has lost the ability to do so many
things, but living in his home and having access to things like the Greenway Trail and the
Metroparks has given him the ability to go out and enjoy every minute with us. There will come
a day when he is not here and then we would have to pack up those 11 years of memories, but
until that day comes, please allow my family to find peace, comfort and solstice in their home and
their community.
Janelle Finney
6796 Eastgate Drive
I have lived here for over 21 years. Today I come not only to speak on behalf of the Enkler family,
but as a community member, a homeowner and a taxpayer and someone who is absolutely appalled
at this community's actions. Alice Enkler is my best friend. She's my person. We are not blood
related, but they are my family. That being said, if I found out that this happened to someone I
didn't even know, I would be here tonight. We have all heard from the family. This is obviously
a very raw and emotional issue and it's time -sensitive as well.
I'm not going to repeat the details that Alice and Caitlyn gave you as they have done an excellent
job clearly explaining what this family is facing. I am going to ask some questions. I know this
is not back and forth, but I hope before the night is over someone can answer these. These are
questions not just myself have come up with but several community members. We all know as
Alice mentioned last week out of the blue they were hand -delivered an order to vacate their rented
home within a mere 82 days. Why was this decision to sell the property not listed on a Council
meeting agenda that anyone could come and discuss yet it was put into an Executive Session? It's
obvious that this was an unreasonable act to put it under the radar and it was clearly a decision
everyone knew would result in turmoil for the people we live next door to. Especially considering
that a year ago, Alice sent Mayor Bodnar an e-mail at the time they were questioning whether they
were going to spend the money to put a roof on the house. Mayor Bodnar, you responded to that
e-mail on August 3 I ", less than a year ago, that clearly explains John's health conditions. At that
time, his cancer was not metastatic but he was beginning to decline. They expressed the value to
them of living here. Clearly those details were not shared with Council nor were they
acknowledged. At that time, those discussions were also not put into Executive Session in the
Minutes. Those discussions weren't private at that time so I wonder why they had to be now. Is
this a decision that was presented in detail to every one of these Council members and then fairly
voted upon? If not, who made this decision? When and why? According to the Minutes from
last month when Council President Schutt invited people into the Executive Session, not every
Council member was included. That makes me feel like not everyone knew this was going to
happen.
