Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, November 18, 2024
Page 4
At the last Parks and Recreation Board meeting, we talked about the scholarship for the Hudacko
Scholarship Fund. This year they collected $10,000. We allocated 80% of that which is $8,000.
They are going to give out one $4,000 scholarship divided over a 4 year period and then they are
going to use the balance of the $7,000 to other scholarships. The Grove was the financial supporter
of that scholarship. Without that, that scholarship would have been defunct around 2020-2021.
There would be no money left. That's when we were giving out $500 scholarships. Now we have
the ability to give a student $4,000 which is a nice edition. They will have to submit every year to
make sure they are still in college. If this works out well, we will keep on going in that direction.
Coming up on December 61h we have our Tree Lighting at the Gazebo at 6:00. Breakfast with
Santa is on December 7th. He will then go around the community.
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving spending time with family and friends.
Council President Schutt stated, thank you, Mr. McAvinew. Are there any questions?
There were none.
Council President Schutt asked, are there any other Department Head reports this evening?
There were none.
Committee Reports
- Volunteer Firefighter's Dependents' Fund Board — Designation of 2 members of the Legislative
Authorily
Mrs. Betsa stated, as report at Caucus by Chief Carcioppolo, this Board is required to meet once a
year in order to qualify for grants or widow benefits for part-timers. The firefighters placed their
votes for two representatives from the Fire Department. Chief Carcioppolo and retired Assistant
Chief Girbino will serve on their behalf. Now we need two members of Council designated
whereupon the two members of Fire and Council will meet to select a resident to serve on the
Board. Is anyone on Council interested in serving?
Mr. Meyers and Mrs. Jurcisek indicated their interest.
Mrs. Betsa stated, the annual meeting lasts normally 15 minutes, but we are required to approve a
couple of things include the $150 annual assessment. I will coordinate calendars for the purpose
of scheduling a meeting in December and I will let you know. Thank you.
Council President Schutt asked, any questions?
There were none.
