Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council <br />Tuesday, March 18, 2025 <br />Page 2 <br />Comments From Mayor Bodnar <br />Thank you Mrs. Jurcisek. Tonight we have the honor of welcoming a new firefighter. We also <br />have the bittersweet task of bidding - I am not going to say farewell, but Auf Wiedersehen to our <br />dear friend and Administrative Assistant of many years, Debbie Thomas. Let's begin with the <br />swearing -in of the new firefighter. <br />Swearing -in of new Firefighter Benjamin Gruber <br />Mr. Gruber, if you would come to the podium and bring with you any members of your family that <br />you would like to have up here with you. <br />Mayor Bodnar administered the oath of office to Firefighter Benjamin Gruber. Congratulations. <br />We are very happy to have you as part of the team. <br />Now, we have the task of bidding farewell and thanking our Administrative Assistant Debbie <br />Thomas. Debbie, we are going to miss you greatly. You brought so much to this job. You really <br />set the gold standard here. Did you see the little note that I wrote to you? The one thing we are <br />not going to miss is your friendship and that's because none of us are giving that up. We expect <br />to see you here and around the Village and to keep in touch and to always be friends. <br />• First Reading of Resolution No. 2025-17, entitled, "A resolution congratulating <br />Mayfield Village Administrative Assistant Debbie Thomas on her retirement and <br />thanking her for 25 years of exceptional service to Mayfield Village." Introduced by <br />Mayor Bodnar (Administration). (Requires suspension of the rules tonight and upon <br />passage this legislation will take effect immediately upon signature of the Mayor.) <br />WHEREAS, Debbie and Jim Thomas moved to Mayfield Village in 1980 and raised their <br />four children --Jimmy, Jeffrey, Jaclyn & Joey --on Wildwood Trail; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2000, Debbie Thomas was hired to work as a part-time Receptionist and <br />Administrative Assistant by then -Mayor Bruce G. Rinker, with the position becoming full-time in <br />2006; and <br />WHEREAS, over the last 25 years, Debbie has been the face and the voice of Mayfield <br />Village, answering phones, greeting all guests to the Civic Center, and helping co-workers in all <br />Departments with whatever needed to be done; and <br />WHEREAS, Debbie was in charge of scheduling all rentals at the Community Room, <br />communicating and coordinating the services provided there, and gracefully dealing with regular <br />requests from residents to allow them to "bend" the rules; and <br />WHEREAS, Debbie was also on the front lines with the community groups that utilize <br />Village facilities, ensuring that all schedules were coordinated and all details were handled; and <br />
