Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, August 4, 2025
Page 3
There were none.
Council President Schutt stated, thank you, Mr. Russell.
Danielle Echt (Parks and Recreation) — Thank you. I just wanted to let everyone know that both
of our interns are in attendance today, Kaitlin and Alexis. They both have been working with us
since June and they are finishing up their internship. I want to thank you both for all of the effort
you have given our Department and all of our programs and everything. We couldn't have done it
without you this summer. We also have one more big event coming up, our end of summer
celebration. It's this Saturday at the pool from 11:30-5:00. A lot of activities are planned for the
kids with swimming and a cookout. If anyone is interested in volunteering to help serve food, let
me know. Thank you.
Council President Schutt stated, thank you. Any questions?
There were none.
Council President Schutt asked, are there any other department head reports this evening?
Frank Stupczy (Service Department) — I would like to report on the West Nile virus. We were
notified that it was discovered in our Village last week. The Cuyahoga County Board of Health
uses the back of our property at the Service Department to trap mosquitos and test for positive
results for West Nile virus. We were notified last week that they trapped and tested. They did in
fact test positive. The Administration responded with a push notification through CivicReady to
all of our residents notifying of this positive test. We also published an announcement on our
website and some information provided by the Board of Health on what to do and some precautions
to take. I have spoken with Mason Leuthaeuser with the Board of Health. He advised that this
year there is an uptick on positive trappings, probably due to the amount of consistent wet weather
we have had throughout the season from Spring through Summer. It is an uptick but it isn't
alarming or record numbers or anything like that yet. There have been zero cases of human
positive tests so there's been no cases yet. The recommendation right now is to get rid of any
standing water that may be on property or near your home. Any water that sits for more than 10
days is going to become a breeding ground for mosquitos. If you get rid of that standing water
you don't have to worry about it becoming a breeding ground. Any standing water that you cannot
dry up or get rid of, it is recommended to treat it with larvicides that will kill those baby mosquito
larvae in the water before they become full mature adults that can carry the West Nile virus. Also
use bug spray and citronella when you are outdoors enjoying the patio in the evening.
Council President Schutt asked, any questions?
Mr. Meyers stated, the Montebello residents, across from my house, should they treat that?
Mr. Stupczy replied, that's a good question.
