RESOLUTTON N0. 82- 34 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Robert G. Beebe <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE PRESIDENT, <br />UNITED STATES SETIATORS FROM THE STATE <br />OF OHIO, AND THE OHIO DELEGATION TO <br />THE UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES <br />TO OPPOSE ANY PROPOSAL TO INCLUDF THE <br />OHIO PUBLIC EMPLOYEES RETIREMErdT SYSTEM <br />UNDER FEDERAL SOCIAL SECURITY. <br />WHEREAS, Mayfield Village has employees who, for their <br />tenure of service have beeri faithfully'making contributions to <br />the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System is <br />a conservatively and competently managed system which has served <br />its members wel1; and <br />WHEREAS, having the Public Employees Retirement System <br />handle retirement contributions for public employees employed <br />by Mayfield Village hasassisted Mayfield Village in recruiting <br />and maintaining highly qualified'individuals as employees; and <br />WHEREAS, Mayfield Village has beeri informed that there is <br />a proposal currently pending before Congress to include the <br />Ohio Public Employees Retirement System and other non-social <br />security states under federal social security; and <br />WHEREAS, the Federal Social Security System has been <br />poorly managed and is currently on the verge of bankruptcy; and <br />WHEREAS, inclusion of Ohio Public Employees Retirement <br />System under federal social security would provide no incentive <br />for recruitment of new employees and a disincentive for current <br />employees; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council of R'Iayfield Village, together with <br />the administration and all employees of Mayfield Village wish to <br />unanimously express their strong opposition to any proposal to <br />include the Ohio Public Employees Retiremerit System under federal <br />social security; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section 1. That this Council, on belialf of the Uillage <br />of Mayfield, the administration of the Village of Mayfield, and <br />all employees, wishes to urge the President of the United States,
