RESOLUTION NO. 82- $g <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayan and Coune.{.2 ccz a Glhvte <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING AN INCREASE IN SERVICE <br />RATES FOR THE OHIO BELL TELEPHONE COMPANY <br />WHEREAS, the Ohio bell Telephone Company has given official <br />notice of its intent to file an application with the Public <br />Utilities Commission of Ohio to increase its service rates for <br />telephone service, and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council deem the proposed rate <br />increase by the Ohio Bell Telephone Company to be motivated solely <br />by the Company's desire to generate excessive profits for the <br />benefit of its corporate officers and shareholders rather than <br />to genuine increases in the cost of providing telephone service;and <br />WIiEREAS9 the Mayor and Council regard the rate increase <br />proposed by the Ohio Bell Telephone Company to be a gross abuse <br />of monopoly power, highly detrimental to the public interests; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed rate increase, if adopted, would <br />increase the burdens of inflation presently born by the residents <br />of the Village of Mayfield, Ohio, and other communities throughout <br />Ohio and would work a particular hardship on senior citizens and <br />other individuals dependent on a fixed income; now,.therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section l. The Mayor and Council of Nlayfield Village, Ohio, <br />vigor.ously oppose the granting of the rate increase currently <br />being requested by the Ohio Bell Telephone Company for telephone <br />service within its service area. <br />Section 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to the Clerk of <br />the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, to Governor-Elect <br />Richard Celeste, to the Cuyahoga County State Delegation to the <br />General Assembly and to the municipal councils within Cuyahoga <br />County. . Section 3. That the Council finds and determines that all <br />formal actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this <br />Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and <br />that deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting <br />in such formal action, took place in meetings open to the public, <br />in compliance with all statutory requirements, including the <br />requirements of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.
