RESOLUTION NO. 81- 50
INTRODUCED BY: Mayor & Council as a Whole
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE RATE INCREASE FOR
NATURAL GAS AS PROPOSED BY THE EAST OHIO GAS
COMPANY.
WHEREAS, the East Ohio Gas Company has given official
notice of its intent to file an application with the Ohio
Public Utilities Commission to amend its tariff so as to
increase rates and charges for natural gas service in its
entire service territory, including the Village of Mayfield, by
5.5. percent; and
WHEREAS, Council deems the proposed amendments to the
East Ohio Gas Co. tariff to be motivated solely by the company's
desire to generate excessive profits for the benefit of the
corporation and its shareholders, rather than to genuine increases
in the cost of supplying natural gas; and
WHEREAS, Council regards the proposed rate increase by the
East Ohio Gas Co. as a gross abuse of monopoly power, highly
detrimental to the public interest; and
WHEREAS, the proposed rate increase, if adopted, would
increase the burdens of inflation presently borne by the residents
of Mayfield Village and other communities. throughout Ohio and
would work a particular hardship on senior citizens and other
individuals dependent on a fixed income; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT:
Section 1. The Mayor and Council, on behalf of the
residents of Mayfield Village, vigorously oppose the granting
of the rate increase currently being requested by the East Ohio
Gas Co. for natural gas service within its service area.
Section 2. Council urges the Councils of other affected
municipalities to adopt similar resolutions opposing the said
rate increase and that the Ohio Public Utilities Commission be
promptly advised of the adoption of such legislation.
Section 3. The Clerk of the Council is hereby authorized,
empowered and directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to
the Clerk of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, to Governor
James A. Rhodes, to State Senator Ben Ska11, to State Representative
Jeffrey Dean and to the Clerks of the other Hillcrest area Councils.
