RESOLUTION NO. 81- 66 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor & Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING INCREASES IN SERVICE <br />RATES FOR TELEPHONE SERVICE AS PROPOSED BY <br />THE OHIO BELL TELEPHONE CO. <br />WHEREAS, the Ohio Be11 Telephone Co. has given official <br />notice of its intent to file an application with the Public Utilities <br />Commission of Ohio to amend its tariffs so as to effect substantial <br />increases in rates and charges for telephone service in its entire <br />service territory, including May~'ield Village; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council deem the proposed amendments <br />to Ohio Bell Telephone Co, tariffs to be motivated solely by the <br />Company's desire to generate excessive profits for the benefit of <br />its corporate officers and shareholders, rather than to genuine_ ~: -,.-- . <br />increases i:n the cost of supplying telephone service; and <br />WHEREAS, the„Mayor and Council regard the rate increase <br />proposed by the Ohio Be11 Telephone Co. as a gross abuse of monopoly <br />power, highly detrimental to the public interest; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed rate increase, as adopted, would <br />increase the burdens of inflation presently borne by the residents <br />of Mayfield Village and other communities throughout Ohio and <br />would work a particular hardship on senior citizens and other <br />individuals dependent on fixed income; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section 1. The Mayor and_Council,-andbehalf of themselves <br />and the residents of Mayfield Village, Ohio, vigorously oppose <br />granting the rate increase currently being requested by the Ohio <br />Bell Telephone Co. for telephone service within its service area. <br />Section 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward copies of this Resolution to Governor James A. <br />Rhodes, all members of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and <br />to the Clerks of Council for all municipalities in Cuyahoga County <br />urging said Councils to adopt similar Resolutions opposing the rate <br />increase sought by the Ohio Bell Telephone Co. <br />Section 3. That the Council finds and determines that all <br />formal actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this <br />Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Counci; and <br />that deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting <br />
