RESOLUTION NO. gp_'7 <br />BY: Mayor and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION TN OPPOSI'TION' TO THE <br />CLEVELAND ELECTRIC TLLUMINAThNG COMPANY~S <br />LATEST PROPOSED RATE INCREASE. <br />WHEREAS, the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company <br />(CEI) has recently announced their intention to seek from the <br />Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO)=~an addt%onal rate in- <br />crease of nearly 10.5.% for electrical service; and <br />WHEREAS, this proposed rate increase, if permitted, would <br />increase the burden of inflation presently borne by the residents <br />of Mayfield Village and other communities throughout Northeastern <br />Ohio and would be a particular hardship on senior citizens and <br />other individuals on fixed incomes; and <br />WHEREAS, there does not appear to be any justification <br />whatsoever for an increase in rates and charges as proposed by <br />CEI and is another example of their absolute disregard for their <br />customers and public interest; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF HAYFIELD OHIO, THAT: <br />Section 1. The Council of Mayfield Village, Ohio is abso- <br />~:~x~~rly.and unequivocally opposed to CEI'-s latest proposed rate increase <br />of nearly 10..5 percent. <br />Section 2. Council urges other affected municipalities <br />to adopt Resolutions opposing the latest proposed increase and <br />that the PUCO be promptly advised of such legislation. <br />Section 3. The Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized <br />and directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to Governor James <br />A. Rhodes, the Clerk of the Ohio Senate, House of Representatives, <br />the PUCO, and other municipalities within Cuyahoc~ County. <br />Section 4. This Council declares this Resolution to <br />be an emergency measure immediately necessary for the preservation <br />of the public health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens <br />of the Village of Mayfield, Ohio, and shall take effect and be <br />in full force immediately upon its adoption by this Council and <br />approval by the Mayor; otherwise from and after the earliest period <br />allowed by law. <br />Presiden of Council <br />PASSED: 1/21/80 _ /~* <br />APPROVED : 1L. ~'"~ <br />Robert G~ Beebe , Mayor <br />APPROVED AS TO FORM: <br />Date <br />Guerin L.
