RESOLUTION N0. 85- 10 <br />INTRODUCED. BY: Mayor Carmen & Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION URGING GENERAL MOTORS TO LOCATE ITS <br />SATURN DIVISION IN OHIO AND FURTHER URGING THAT <br />CUYAHOGA COUNTY BE GIVEN PREFERABLE CONSIDERATION. <br />WHEREAS, the General Motors Corporation is currently <br />considering proposals from various states in order to determine the <br />location of its new Saturn Division; and <br />WHEREAS, Ohio ranks high with respect to three critical <br />factors affecting the attractiveness of a new site, namely: market, <br />suppliers and transportation, the latter of which includes water, <br />railroads, roads, and air travel, all of which have helped make Ohio a <br />dominant force in world trade; and <br />WHEREAS, nearly two-thirds of the total United States <br />population, income and manufacturing activity are within overnight <br />road transportation of Ohio's borders; and <br />WHEREAS, Ohio's academic and vocational strength provides <br />business with a highly motivated work force which is further enhanced <br />by the State°s commitment to educational excellence in elementary, <br />secondary, vocational, technical and higher education; and <br />WHEREAS, Ohio's favorable tax measures provide an <br />environment conducive to business growth and development; and <br />WHEREAS, it is anticipated the Saturn Division will bring <br />approximately 6,000.00 jobs, as well as another estimated 15,000 <br />support jobs, to Ohio, and Cuyahoga County, which currently have <br />respective unemployment rates of 9.2o and 8.6% based on December 1984 <br />labor statistics; and <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County, with 61,562 of its 715,000 labor <br />force currently unemployed, many of whom are skilled auto workers, <br />would especially welcome the opportunities for employment that Saturn <br />would bring to Northeast Ohio; and <br />WHEREAS, the economic, social, medical, recreational and <br />cultural renaissance currently underway in Metropolitan Cleveland and <br />throughout the State offer prospective Saturn employees a high quality <br />of living and excellent choice of neighborhoods in which to live and <br />raise a family; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section 1. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, <br />Ohio, urge William Hoglund, President of the Saturn Corporation, and <br />the corporate officials of the General Motors Corporation, to give <br />serious consideration to locating the Saturn Division in Ohio, <br />preferably in Cuyahoga County. <br />
