RESOLUTION NO. 87- 43 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Carmen & Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE RESIDENTIAL RATE <br />INCREASE REQUESTED BY THE CLEVELAND ELECTRIC <br />ILLUMINATING COMPANY. <br />WHEREAS, the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company has <br />filed a twenty two percent (22~) residential rate increase request <br />with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio; and <br />WHEREAS, the requested percentage residential rate increase <br />translates into a 5256 million rate case; and <br />WHEREAS, a majority of the rate increase request (69.50 is <br />to pay for the Perry I Nuclear Plant; and <br />WHEREAS, the rate increase request by the Cleveland Electric <br />Illuminating Company is exorbitant and would work a hardship on most <br />customers within the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company service <br />area, especially those on fixed income; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section 1. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, <br />Ohio, on behalf of the residents of the municipality, hereby express <br />their opposition to the residential rate increase request by the <br />Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company currently pending before the <br />Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. <br />Section 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward copies of this Resolution to Governor Richard F. <br />Celeste, the Cuyahoga County Delegation to the Ohio General Assembly, <br />the Office of the Consumers' Counsel and to all members of the Public <br />Utilities Commission of Ohio. <br />Section 3. That the Council finds and determines that all <br />formal actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this <br />Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and that <br />deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in such <br />formal action, took place in meetings open to the public, in <br />compliance with all statutory requirements including the requirements <br />of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code. <br />Section 4.
