Resolution No. 78-12 <br />By: Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION OBJECTING TO CANCELLATION <br />OF ROAD MAINTENANCE SERVICES BY THE <br />COUNTY ENGINEER OF CUYAHOGA COUNTY AND <br />SEEKING RELIEF <br />WHEREAS, in Cuyahoqa County and in Mayfield Village in <br />said%County, the County Engineer has historically <br />provided basic road maintenance services for <br />designated County Roads; and <br />WHEREAS, lack of funds has caused the County Engineer to <br />announce that in the future such services will <br />be curtailed or eliminated; and <br />WHEREAS, the resultant burden falls unevenly on a Village <br />such as Mayfield, where the width and length of <br />affected roadways serving residents of other <br />municipalities is totally disproportionate to <br />the size of the municipality and its budget; and <br />WHEREAS, the sudden change in policy by the County Engineer <br />was ill-advised and respresents a lack of required <br />foresight by such officer; but <br />WHEREAS, the situation also calls into question the wisdom of <br />the members of the legislature of the State of Ohio <br />who have failed to provide a method for raising and <br />distributing funds adequate to maintain roads and <br />bridges to avoid crises such as these; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COIINCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Sectson 1: This Council vehemer_tly opposes the drastic <br />cut in services initiated virtually Without warning by the <br />Cuyahoga County Engineer, <br />Section 2: This Council officially urges the members of <br />the General Assembly of the State of Ohio to seriously consider <br />emergency legislation to solve the immediate funding crisis <br />that exists w3th regard to the maintenance of local roads <br />and bridqes in the Counties and Municipalities of Ohio. The <br />Clerk is authorrzed and directed to certify copies of this <br />resolution to Senator Anthony O. Calabrese and Representative <br />Virginia Aveni and such other members of the Cuyahoga County <br />delegation as the Mayor deems appropriate.
