RESOLUTION N0. 2004-27 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION <br />IN SUPPORT OF THE STATE CLEAN OHIO FUND (ISSUE I) AND URGING ITS <br />CURRENT AND ONGOING FUNDING <br />WHEREAS, in his 2000 State of the State address, Governor Taft <br />outlined his vision for the Clean Ohio Fund and in 2001 stated that "We <br />all want clean water, green space and recreational trails to enjoy and <br />cities where we can live and work and prosper. The Clean Ohio Fund <br />makes that possible."; and <br />WHEREAS, the State legislature, in a bipartisan effort, put the <br />Issue I program on the ballot in November, 2000; and <br />WHEREAS, the voters of the great State of Ohio, literally bought <br />in the Governor's vision of Clean Ohio by passing the measure handily; <br />and <br />WHEREAS,the program survive the implementation process intact <br />where four competitive funding programs; and <br />WHEREAS, the program has been in existence for two years with a <br />third round in process; and <br />WHEREAS, the program has been a great benefit to Mayfield Village <br />through such projects as the Beecher's Brook Land Acquisition Phase I <br />program, the Upper 40 stream restoration Program Phase I and the <br />Foster's Run stream restoration project; and <br />WHEREAS, the program has fostered cooperation among the Village, <br />the Village of Gates Mills, the Gates Mills Land Conservancy and the <br />Cleveland Metroparks; and <br />WHEREAS, the Village has learned that the funding of the Issue I <br />Clean Ohio Fund may be in jeopardy. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION l. That the Village of Mayfield hereby recommends that <br />the State Clean Ohio Fund continue to be funded per the wishes of the <br />state's voting public and its residents. <br />SECTION 2. That the Village of Mayfield urges all state municipal <br />officials, citizens and businesses in Cuyahoga County to support and <br />defend the continued funding of the Clean Ohio Fund. <br />SECTION 3. That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to <br />Governor Bob Taft, State Representative Timothy J. Grendell, State <br />Senator Robert A. Gardner, Representative Steven LaTourette and <br />Senators George Voinovich and Michael DeWine.
