ORDINANCE NO. 2005-31 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE V, SECTION 9.1 <br />OF THE CHARTER OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE PERTAINING TO <br />REQUIRING A REFERENDUM VOTE FOR ANY PROPOSAL TO JOIN OR <br />PARTICIPATE IN A REGIONALIZED POLICE OR FIRE DISTRICT <br />WHEREAS, Article XI of the Village Charter currently requires that the <br />Charter Review Commission convene every five years to review the Charter, and <br />thereafter to have a review session with the Mayor and Council and then to <br />recommend to the voters any amendments to the Charter as in its judgment are <br />desirable; and <br />WHEREAS, the Charter Review Commission has recommended to the <br />voters the following proposed amendment to Article V, Section 9.1. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO THAT: <br />SECTION 1. Article V, Section 9.1 of the Charter of the Village of Mayfield <br />is amended to read as follows: <br />SECTION 9.1 REGIONALIZED DISTRICTS <br />In the event the Council determines that it is in the best interests of the <br />Municipality to join or participate in a regionalized public service, other than a <br />police or fire district then the Council shall have the authority to do so and in so <br />doing may abolish or consolidate those positions or departmental functions it <br />deems necessary to effect such transition. Anv proposal of Council to ioin or <br />participate in a reqionalized police or fire district shall be submitted to the electors <br />at the next qeneral election or anv reQUlarlv scheduled primarv election in the <br />municipality. The proposal shall become effective onlv upon approval bv a <br />maioritv of the electors of the municipalitv votinq.
