ORDINANCE NO. 2005-34 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE XI <br />OF THE CHARTER OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE PERTAINING TO <br />EXTENDING THE APPOINTMENT OF A CHARTER REVIEW <br />COMMISSION TO EVERY TEN (10) YEARS <br />WHEREAS, Article XI of the Village Charter currently requires that the <br />Charter Review Commission convene every five years to review the Charter, and <br />thereafter to have a review session with the Mayor and Council and then to <br />recommend to the voters any amendments to the Charter as in its judgment are <br />desirable; and <br />WHEREAS, the Charter Review Commission has recommended to the <br />voters the following proposed amendment to Article XI. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO THAT: <br />SECTION 1. Article XI of the Charter of the Village of Mayfield is amended <br />to read as follows: <br />ARTICLE XI <br />CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION <br />In January, 1995, -2005, and each #+ve ten years thereafter, the Mayor and <br />each member of Council shall appoint one elector each (for a total of 8), who <br />shall be electors of the Municipality holding no other elective office, in the <br />government of the Municipality, as members of the Charter Review Commission. <br />Such commission shall review the Charter, and within five calendar months after <br />such appointment, shall have a review session with the Mayor and Council and <br />then recommend to the voters such amendments, if any, to this Charter, as in its <br />judgment are desirable. The Council shall submit to the electors not later than <br />the next succeeding general election any such proposed amendments. The <br />members appointed to said Commission shall serve without compensation. <br />Meetings of the Charter Review Commission shall be open to the public. <br />SECTION 2. This ordinance upon adoption by Council shall be referred to <br />the Clerk of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections not later than sixty (60) days <br />before the November 8, 2005 election. Upon this proposed amendment being <br />approved by the majority of the electors voting thereon, it shall become part of the <br />Charter of Mayfield Village.
