The
water at the corner apparently comes from the creek; the water west of the
corner is clear and seems to be from the water line. The contractor must make
provision f or correction bef ore the Engineers accept the streets. Mr. Edelman
stated that there is no ordinance f or Iceeping private property clear, but it is
a service f or the good of the public.
M r. Sloan asked Mr. Peterson and Mr. Weiss for an evaluation of a
rubberized surface versus chipping and shootittg. A rubberized surface costs
sixty cents a square yard against twenty cents f or shooting and chipping. Mr.
Weiss feels that a rubberized base is best, because it lasts nine or ten years
against two or three for shooting and chipping. This depends upon the condition
of the base, which percentage-wise is in good shape. Mr. Peterson said that a
couple of miles of streets in Bedf ord Heights had a rubberized surf ace and it
had proved to be extremely satisfactory.
1.
