MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village
May 17, 1999
The Council of Mayfield Village met in Regular session on Monday, May 17, 1999, at 8:02 p.m.
in the Mayfield Village Senior Center/Community Room. Council President Bill Marquardt
presided.
ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Buckholtz, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Fixler,
Mr. Marquardt, Mrs. Mills and Dr. Parker
Absent: None
Also Present: Mayor Rinker, Mr. Brett, Mr. Cappello, Mr. Diemert (8:12 p.m.),
Mr. Hovancsek (8:10 p.m.)-Mr. Metzung, Chief Mohr, Mr. Samac
(8:07 p.m.) Chief Stevens, Mr. Thomas (8:08 p.m.), and Mrs.
Roman
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Rlag was given.
OPEN PORTTON
Terry Santoro, Thornapple Drive, said she is a member of the Activities Committee. She
expressed thanks to everybody who helped with the Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast--the
Service Department personnel, the volunteers and the girls in the office who helped. It was a
success this year.
Ed Schultz, 6862 Metro Park Drive, said he was Chairman of the Mayfield Virlage Civic League.
We were chartered and state-approved in 1965. It was a non-profit organization. They
represented the homeowners in every area of the Village. At one time their membership ran to
750. Our objective was to protect the homeowners and their problems and vested interests when
some of the City fathers wouldn't behave themselves. Mr. Schultz cited several examples of
where the organization was active such as the Hilltop Sewer Project- in 1965--they were
responsible for stopping a project with the County Commissioners; they put in 1771awsuits at
that time. They also were very active with Industrial Park disqualifications with Judge Alvin
Krenzler and stopped the annexation that Julius Paris was trying to corrupt Mayfield Village
with. They formed a Civic League in Highland Heights and the project was turned down. Mr.
Schultz said they did a lot to get rid of political harm that got rid of some of the vested interests
in the period on Council whose interests were of their own concern and certainly not with the
ambience and character of the Village which was their project. Mr. Schultz said he talked with
Mr. Samac a couple of days ago regarding the request and his issuance of a permit to one of the
neighbors who wants to build a second story. This subdivision is all ranch-style homes. Mr.
Schultz said he will read from the_title (but will skip over things which refer to ranch style design
and attached garages) and he quoted from schedule "B", subsection 6. It says you can't have
anything other than a ranch-style home. Mr. Samac lead him to believe that he had just received
the information recently. He talked with a good friend and one of the trustees of the Mayfield
