NIINiJTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village
December 13, 1999
The Council of Mayfield Village met in Regular Session on Monday, December 13, 1999
at 8:00 p.m. in the Mayfield Village Senior Center/Community Room. Council President Bill
Marquardt presided.
ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Buckholtz, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Ilacqua,
Mr. Marquardt, Mrs. Mills and Dr. Parker
Absent: None .
Also Present: Mayor Rinker, Mr. Brett, Mr. Cappello, Mr. Diemert,
Mr. Metzung, Chief Mohr, Chief Stevens, Mr. Thomas and
Mrs. Roman
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given.
OPEN PORTION
Blase Pietrafese, 577 Timberline Trail, said he would like to speak regarding S.O.M. Center
Road. I am not a very good speaker so I have typed up a little thing. He read the document
which is attached to the minutes as a permanent record. (Five lanes of roadway with a median in
the middle running from Wilson Mills to Highland are not needed. Furthermore, six lanes of
expansive roadway are not needed north of Highland running to White.)
Phil Lazzaro, 286 S.O.M. Center Road, said we are directly affected by this. I agree that we
must have a widened S.O.M. Center, but let's make it just two lanes either way with a passing
lane in the middle. Don't try to decorate it; the upkeep will be monstrous later on. Sure, it looks
nice in the beginning but it grows ugly. I am concerned about Midvale Road. Inasmuch as the
Village has acquired the property east of North Chagrin Commons. I fear that they may open
Midvale Road which will be of access to S.O.M. Center which will add to the traffic. I want to
be assured that this will not happen. I heard by the grapevine, that there is a possibility that the
Village could take our property by eminent domain. I don't think this is fair and I want to be
assured that this will not happen. Because if they develop some of this property, we will wind up
looking like Mayfield Road. We will no longer be a Village. I think we've lost that image
already. So, let's take this into consideration. If you want to keep it a Village, let's do it right.
Allen Daniels 756 S.O.M. Center Road, said I am not very happy with what's going on
regarding the widening of S.O.M. Center Road. I don't mind seeing 4 lanes come in. I know
there will be traffic coming from Progressive. I do not think a 5~' lane is necessary. There is no
reason to have a 5~' lane, paved or unpaved, with trees in it... It shouldn't be there. We have two
lanes now and even though Progressive is not built up as far as they will be, there is no back up
of traffic. The traffic in front of our house is still in one lane--not two lanes, not 3 lanes, not 5
lanes. If you want to let 4 lanes go, that is fine. These people feel they do not want to lose their
