17
MINUTES OF TBE REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village
February 17, 1992
The Council of Mayfield Village met in Regular Session on Monday, February 17, 1992, at
eight o'clock p.m. (8 p.m.) in the Council Chambers at the Village Ha11. Council President
Bruce Rinker presided.
ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Basile, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Fixler, Mr. Flynn,
and Mr. Rinker
Absent: Mr. Ferrante
Also Present Were: Mayor Pietrafese, Mr. Amendola, Mr. Diemert,
Mr. Hovancsek, Lt. 7ay, Chief Mohr, Chief Stevens,
and Miss Heath.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given.
OPEN PORTION
Andrew Hudacko - said he is a home owner and a resident of Mayf'ield Village. He wants
to address Council as a Whole with concerns about the Debbie Hudacko Memorial
Scholarship Race and Run to be held July 19, 1992. Mr. Hudacko said his wife and
himself have been informed by representatives of the Recreation Committee that as far as
monies collected from the race, the format would be changed. Of the monies collected,
only $1,000 would be set aside for two $500 scholarships. The other monies collected
would be going towards Mayfield Village. Mr. Hudacko said when he talked to the
Recrearion Director, he was told one of the projects they were looking into was the
purchase of playground equipment for Wiley Pazk for $21,000. He said they already have
$4,000 in the fund that was not used for scholarships. They had over 400 runners last
year. His families' concern is if we open this fund up, that in all honesty we can't tell
people as we have in the past, that monies would be going strictly for a scholarship. He
thinks that is what it was intended to do and thinks it would be an infringement on what the
original idea of this project was all about. Mr. Hudacko said he has communicated his
families' concern of this change in writing to the Mayor, President or Council, and the head
of the Recreation Committee. They feel this would not be honest with the people who have
supported it. His families' position is if it will be expanded for things other than
scholarships, they can no longer lend the name of Debbie Hudacko to this project. He said
if they are going to continue to do it at this point he wishes them well, however, if they are
going to change it, they do not want to be a part of it.
Mr. Rinker asked if the inirial intent was simply to have a scholarship fund.
Mr. Hudacko said the family was approached with the idea that this race would be used to
generate funds to fund this scholarship fund and that was what the money was to be used
for.
Mr. Rinker asked if there was a misinterpretation regarding how large the scholarship fund
should be. ?
