Regular Council Minutes <br />4-26-04 <br />Page 1 <br />MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL <br />Mayfield Village <br />April 26, 2004 <br />The Council of Mayfield Village met in Regular Session on Monday, Apri126, 2004, at <br />8:08 p.m. in the Mayfield Village Senior Center/Community Room. Council President Bill <br />Buckholtz presided. <br />ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Buckholtz, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Marquardt, Mr. Marrie, <br />Mrs. Mills, Dr. Parker and Mr. Saponaro <br />Absent: None <br />Also Present: Mayor Rinker, Mr. Brett, Chief Dearden, Mr. Hanculak, <br />Mr. Hovancsek, Mr. Marrelli, Mr. Metzung, Chief Mohr, Mr. <br />Samac, Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Roman <br />The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given. <br />OPEN PORTION <br />OPEN PORTION - 5-minute limit imposed by Chair. Those who wish to speak must first state their <br />name and address. Mr. William McClung of the Greater Cleveland Growth Association will present <br />Mayfield Village with a Business Friendly Community award. <br />................................................................................ <br />Council President Buckholtz introduced Mr. William McClung of the Greater Cleveland Partnership <br />(in the audience.) <br />Mr. McClung said i feel very much at home here. I think I know most of the people who are in <br />the room after having been in this community-or at least in a neighboring community for over <br />50 years. For the last 10 years, I have been working at the Greater Cleveland Growth <br />Association for 3 days a week. The Growth Association is now the Greater Cleveland <br />Partnership. About 2 years ago, along with the Greater Akron Chamber, the then Growth <br />Association joined together with the Economic Development Directors for 7 Northeast Ohio <br />counties to form what was then known as the Business Friendly Community Partnership. The <br />purpose of this is to try to work with local communities to elevate the economic development <br />efforts that they put forth to make certain that they were doing all they could do to not only retain <br />but to attract new businesses to their communities. <br />At the same time there was an effort going forward to create what is known as Team NEO. <br />Team NEO is a regional effort to try to put together combined resources for all communities in <br />northeast Ohio to try to become more competitive in attracting new businesses into the area. But <br />the important thing is to recognize that the ultimate responsibility for building a local community <br />rests with the local community. That means that their local efforts have to be very constructive <br />and very positive. <br />What the Business Friendly Community wanted to do was to recognize those communities that <br />are doing a particularly good job and hold them up as models for other communities in northeast <br />Ohio. And they, in order to do that, felt that it would be necessary to get a good handle on what
