INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Bodnar and Council as a Whole
NO. 2021-14
A RESOLUTION THANKING MAYFIELD VILLAGE SERVICE DIRECTOR
DOUGLAS METZUNG FOR 25 YEARS OF DEDICATED
SERVICE TO MAYFIELD VILLAGE
WHEREAS, in 1996, Douglas Metzung was hired by Mayor Bruce G. Rinker as Mayfield
Village's Director of Public Service; and
WHEREAS, before bringing his talents to Mayfield Village, Doug had worked for many years
as a Service Department employee in the City of Willowick, Ohio, ultimately being promoted to the
position of Service Director there; and
WHEREAS, Doug brought with him expertise in road maintenance and sewer construction
and he was immediately thrown into the septic to sanitary conversion project in the Worton Park
neighborhood. Notably, during Doug's tenure, septic systems have been eliminated from all Village
neighborhoods and replaced with sanitary sewers; and
WHEREAS, while the annual road salt bids, trash removal contracts, road improvement
projects and waterline and sewer installations that Doug oversaw are too numerous to mention, Doug
also had a hand in much of the transformation of Mayfield Village over the past three decades,
including:
• The construction or renovation of many of the Village's public facilities, most notably the
purchase of the United Methodist Church and its conversion into our current Civic Center;
• The development of Progressive's second campus and the widening of SOM Center Road;
• The addition of over 100 acres of land dedicated to public parkland, green space and
recreational facilities, which then, much to his chagrin, became part of his responsibility to
maintain, including Parkview Pool and Playground, Wiley Park and Pavilion, a 25 -acre
wetlands park, three softball fields, two soccer fields, the Bruce G. Rinker Greenway Trail, and
The Grove Amphitheatre.
WHEREAS, Doug Metzung has served the community of Mayfield Village with exceptional passion
and commitment for over 25 years. Under his leadership, the streets and sidewalks of Mayfield
Village are always clear of snow, the grass is always cut, the sports fields are pristine, and special
events are cleaned up so quickly that no one can tell thousands of people attended Cruise Night or July
4th Fireworks.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT:
Service Director Douglas Metzung is hereby recognized and congratulated for
25 years of dedicated and exceptional service to Mayfield Village. On behalf
of residents, business owners, department heads and staff, we wish him many
years of health and happiness with his wife LeeAnn, their three lovely
daughters, Katie, Lindsey and Molly, and the new love of his life, grandson
Lincoln Douglas. We suspect that some rounds of golf and a beer or two are in
his future and we hope that he will return to share a glass with us. Cheers
Doug!
