4
BOARD OF BUILDING CODE APPEALS SEPTETBER 24, 1987 PACE 2
Board discussed the previous ordinance regulating masonry materials and
the 1979 legal oninion pertaining to that ordinance. Building Commissioner
Conway advised that any ordinance drawn up by the Board at this time cannot
be in conflict with the State codes, stating that the State code now addresses
most materials and includes testing information. Today's codes no longer
refer apnroval of materials to the Board of Building Standards, and the
Commissianer can no longer accept the Board's approval or disapproval of
materials. Legislation can be drawn up to require that any new material
with no recognized standard can be brought before the Board. Regarding
the material used on Great Northern Plaza South, the former Building Com.-
missioner had submitted a sample of the material which was stamped as an
approved exterior materialo Mr. Conway advised that the developer has
been having so•me problems with the material, but he believes that they were
caused by improper installation. Mr. Conway suggested that the Board
meet with the Architec.tural Board of Review regarding niasonry materials'
since that Board is authorized by code to approve materials on the basis
of aestfl etics. .An invitation will be extended to the Architectural Board
in order to discuss exterior materials.
VI.
