Landmark Commission- May 17, 1990 page 2
a project. Naznes of interested students kTill be given to Patterson.
She has also contacted Dave Dillon, whose Boy Scout troop will be
glad to do a historical skit; rirs. Krause Girl Scout troop will also
be glad to do a skit (5th and 6th graders.).
10. Patterson also reported that Paula Slimak will be available to do
a dramatic presentation in costiam.e about iā¢romenls life in the 1800t s.
Her presentation is geared to the Victorian-era.
11. Lang reported that he has talked with a Mr. Bob Ziko (?), who has a
group of history buffs called the Clearfork Rangers. They will, if
asked, come and set up a tent (on lawn by kettle in front of Twon
Hall?) and deznonstrate wh at day-to-day life was like in the past--
daily chores, etc.
At this point Mayor Boyle and Nancy Wlodarski arrived. All members of
the corrnnission were given the oath of office and sworn in by the Mayor.
Both members of the administration remained for a time, and answered
questions. Asked about the possible use of a city bus for the Frost-
ville tours, the Mayor did not think that this was likely to be possible.
He suggested that perhans the Gerber day-care center bus might be used
free of charge, as a publicity investment and goodwill gesture; .or pos-
siblg a senior van, or Horizon's bns. .
Adced if an outline of the actzvities available at Town Hall from 1 to
5 P.M. on Sunday, Aug. 19th could be included in the Homecorning Booklet,
Wlodarski agreed that this would be desirable; text should be prepared
and ready by sometime in June. She alao, when asked, told the commission
that the 175th anniger.sary committee as a tahole, meeting upstairs that
night, had decided that.the logo for the celebration would not be the
citg seal with appropriate additions, as pro?osed by the Landmarks Com-
mission, but a wheel with numbers and slogan. It was chosen because it
was felt that it would be easier to renroduce. The Commission expressed
disappointment, and souoht assurances that this did not mean th at the city
seal was to be Dermanently abandoned, but that the anniversary logo was
only to be used f or this one occasion. Wlodarski assured the commission
that the city seal would remain in use for other purposes, and in the
f uture .
Wlodarski h.as been meeting with the 1Kinisterial Assoc? ation, which would
like to hold a religious observance of tne anniversarsT; perhaps to in-
clude an old-fashioned hymn sing, on Sunday Aug. 19th, in one of the
churches. A time of 4:30 P.M. was agreed upQn as avoiding conflicts of
activities, and making it possible for families or individuals to go to
both types of observance--Town Iiall.and church.
Jack Boss, pres?dent of the Historical Society, attended f'or a short time,
and suggested that nerhaDs some diaries or letters might be available for
loan from the Society, if they could be copied under the sup-ervision of
a Society member., who could then returri the originals to the Society. They
have h.ad instances of valuable or irreplacable materials disappearing or
being damaged. He said that he would see what arrangements could be made.
Next meeting wi.ll be at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday, May 31st., at which time
a time schedule of events will be drawn up; also a list of time-.frames for
sYzts--perhaps in 30 ye`ar seg-ments' from 1815 to.1990. AdJourned, 9:40 P.M.
