? that the sign was not in the correct location. The members had no problem with
the location. In response to Mr. Grace's question, Mr. Sanker advised that
perhaps the Building Department should have noticed that the wall for the
proposed sign was not in the right location, but with a job that size it
apparently.was over'-ooked. Mr. Grace and Mr. Gomersall questioned who the sign
contractor was since he should have laiown the codes and should have raised the
question before he installed the letters. Dr. Davis stated that "The Signery"
had been the contractor. Mr. Grace would like to know if this sign contractor
is licensed and would like some kind of response from them as to why they put
up the sign up without a permita E Gallagher moved to grant a variance for the
Barton Lorain Animal Hospital at 30732 Lorain Road for a 6 foot, 8 inch
variance for location of ground sign (sign already installed), seconded by J.
Maloney, and tmanimously approved. Variance granted.
4) St. Richard's Catholic Church, 26855 Lorain Road.
Request special permit to construct trussed roof on rectory (side yard of
building does not conform to corner lot setback requirements). Special
permission required Ord. 87-93, Section 1165.02).
(Proposal approved by Planning Commission December 11, 1990).
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the Board. The oath
was administered to Mr. Kelly, architect, who explained that since the flat
roof on the rectory was causing maintenance problems, they would like to change
it to a trussed roof. The members had no.problems with the request. B. Grace
moved to grant a special permit to construct a trussed roof on rectory (side
yard of building does not conform to corner lot setback requirements), for St.
Richard's Catholic Church, 26855 Lorain Road, seconded by R. Gomersall, and
unanir.iously approved. Special permit granted.
5) B. P. ProCare 4710 Great Northern Blvd. Request for variance (1123.12). Request variance for second pole sign on
property. Violation of Ord. 87-93, Section 1163.06-(b)4.
Request reduced by 55% from that which was denied on December- 5, 1990.
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
administered to K. Miller, sign contractor, who explained that they have
reduced the pole sign 55% so that it is only a 32 square foot sign which is 18
square feet less than what is allowed. They need a variance because there is
another po1.e sign on that large parcel of land and the building is not too
visible from Brookpark Road. Mr. Maloney believed that they could put two sign
on the corners of the building at the roof line so that there would be
visibility from both streets. Mr. Miller responded that B.P. had a certain
look and they try not to deviate from that. Mr. Grace stated that they had
complied to what was asked for. Councilwoman Saringer pointed out that there
were other businesses on Great Northern Boulevard who have been denied pole
signs, pointing out that one business was even denied an addition to an
existing pole sign. Mr. Grace stated that they had complied to what the Board
had suggested. E. Gallagher moved to grant the request to B.P. ProCare, 4710
Great Northern Boulevard for a variance for a second pole sign on property,
seconded by T. Restifo, and unanimously approved. Variance granted.
6) Elizabeth A. Moyer, 31109 Lorain Road.
Request determination of Building Official's interpretation that garage height
should not exceed 15 feet (17 foot height is requested) as allowed under Ord.
3
