and individua.l tenants may only have wall signs. All pole signs and non
conforming ground signs will be elimina.ted, as well as other non-conforming
signs. It was clarified that all these sign must be removed by January 1, 1998.
Mrs. Smith objected to the condition of the building, citing trash, weeds, trucks
parked over the weekend and cars with "for sale" signs on them. She maintains
tha,t this 3 by 9 foot sign is much too large since it faces -a residential
neighborhood. Mr. Shariff pointed aut that drivers could not see the sign from
Clague Road since the gas station at the corner obscured the pole sign. Mr.
Restifo pointed out that previously Goodwill had requested a variance and had
stated that if they did not get one, they would have to move. Ms. Gallani
responded that they had been there for 6 years, but they ha.d problems the first
year until they had received a variance. Mr. Gomersall observed that the other
two businesses would probably want signs on Clague Road too. Mr. Grace agreed
that when you were driving south on Clague Road, you could only see the
Chuck-E-Cheese sign, not the others. Chairman Gomersall requested that separate
motions be made for each request. T. Restifo moved to grant to Goodwill
Industries at 23359 Lorain Road their request for a variance to add an insert to
a pole sign with the understanding that all pole signs and ground signs must be
removed by January 1, 1998, seconded by E. Gallagher. Roll call on motion:
Restifo, Gallagher, Grace, Maloney, and Gomersall, no. Motion failed to pass.
Variance denied. E. Gallagher moved to grant the request for a variance for more
than 1 wall sign for a business use with the note that the existing ground sign
will be removed for Goodwill Industries, 23359 Lorain Road, seconded by T.
Restifo. Building Commissioner Conway pointed out that the removal of the ground
sign was coupled with pole sign, not the wall sign. Mr. Gallagher withdrew that
part of the motion. Motion was secondecl by T. Restifo. Roll call on motion:
Gallagher, Restifo, Maloney9 and Gomersall, noa Mr. Grace, yes. Motion failed to
pass. Variance denieda
3. The oath was
administered to Mr. and.Mrs. Semon, and Mr. Kuenn, contractor. Mrs. Semon pointed
out that all the split level homes in the neighborhood have a variance. Mr.
Gomersall stated that they only have a 39 foot rear yard as well as a
non-conforming front set back. The members had no questions. J. Maloney moved to
grant the request of Joseph and Leda Semon, 24979 Doe Drive, for a 22 foot rear
yard variance to construct a patio enclosure, and a special permit to add to a
non-conforming dwelling, seconded by B.
