?
Mr. Mayor, can you, Councilmembers, or the Planning Commission, work
with the Wal-Mart people to find an alternate sight? We were told two
other sites were considered, but the sale prices were not as appealing
as this one at Lorain/Dover Center. Can the city come up with a tax
abatement or some other form of assistance for a property owner who might
need a higher sale price but whose property is more suited to a store of
this size? The area of the Crocker Basset extension would provide perfect
access to such a store.
We understand that even though the Planning Commission members may not
individually feel that the proposed site is a good location for this store,
they are b)ound to accept a proposal that falls within zoning guidelines,
regardless of what this project would do to the community. I can't believe
that, with all our knowledge and experience, we, as.residents, and you, as
elected officials, could not find an alternative to this matter that would
benefit both Wal-Mart and our community. As you may know, Mr. Newberry will make another proposal to our
Pla nning Commission on Tuesday evening, July 27, 1993. Please give this
matter your prompt attention. Naturally, I, along with many other residents,
await your reply.
Thank you for your kind attention.
Sincerely,
Bethia Kummer
cc: City Council President, James Boehmer
Ward 1 Councilman, James Leonard
Planning Commission: Bryan Gorris
Ronald Tallon
Kay 0'' Rourke
Angelo Skoulis
Lawrence Orlowski
John Thomas
