CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
BOARD OF BUIILDING CODE APPEALS
CORRECTED-NIINIJTES - JULY 21, 1994
I. ROLL CALL:
Vice Chairman Kazak called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.
Present: P. Engoglia, J. Kazak, W. Piar, and D. Spoerke.
Absent: R. Burk.
Also Present: Building Commissioner Conway and Clerk of Commissions Oring.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
P. Engoglia moved to approve the minutes of June 30, 1994, seconded by D. Spoerke, and
unanimously approved.
III. COMMLTNICATIONS:
Vice Chairmau Kazak read two letters from Joanne Botson objecting to the satellite dish on
the North Olmsted Oldsmobile property. Main.taining that she did not want to see the dish and
that she did not want the electrical interference and the possibility of lighting striking it. She
also complained about having to see and hear the activity at this dealership. W. Schmidtz,
another neighbor, had also called complaining about the dish and advising that when Council
approved the building, they would not be allowed to place a dish on the building.
N. HEARINGS:
North Olmsted Oldsmobile Satellite Dish, 27871-81 Lorain Rd. .
Hearing required because of complaints received from adjacent residents as prescribed under
Ord. 87-85, Section 1367.02. Note: Satellite Dish Conforms to Code.
In reference to the letters read above, Building Commissioner Conway gave a brief history of
the properly. Originally this was the truck dealership for` the Chevrolet business across the
street, and the minutes refer to that. There was an application for a roof top unit on this
building in 1986, at which time the building codes did not allow roof top satellite dishes, and it
was denied. Later there was an application for a dish in the rear yazd, but that was denied
because of location and screening; and also because the same dealership was across the street,
the owner agreed to put the dish on that location since it was less visible to residents. There
was no representative present, but Mr. Conway assumed that because this is now an
Oldsmobile Dealership, they need the dish on this property. Mr. Kazak stated that the
dealership gets sales trainin.g information via these dishes. The members had viewed the site.
Mr. Conway had a picture showing what Mrs. Botson would see from her home. The
members agreed that only a few mches of the dish were visible over the fence. Mr. Kazak
stated that these dishes did not affect anyone else's reception. Since the contractor did not get
a permit for the dish, he would have to pay a double fee. Since the complaint is mainly about
the view, it was decided to require some shrubs to screen the dish. P: Engoglia moved to
gpprove the North Olmsted Oldsmobile satellite dish with the recommendation that a
