I , ?r <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />BOARD OF BiJILDING CODE APPEALS <br />MINUTES - MARCH 24, 1994 <br />1. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairmau Burk called the meeting to order at 7:34 P.M. <br />Present: J. Kazak, W. Piar, and R. Burk. <br />Absent: P. Engoglia and D. Spoerke. <br />Also Present: Building Commissioner Conway and Clerk of Commissions Oring. <br />R. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MIN[JTES: <br />J. Kazak moved to approve tb.e minutes of January 27, 1994, seconded by W. Piar, and <br />iuiauimously approved. <br />III. COMMUNICATIONS: <br />No items_ <br />N. HEARINGS: <br />Paul Kukiua, 24095 Elm Road - <br />Request variance to have 73 inch headroom on stauway to addition, C.A.B.O. Sectiou R213 <br />requires a minimum of 6 foot, 8 inches. Also request variance to Section R213.1 requiring that <br />risers shall not vary in height by more than 3/8 inches, - steps to additiou built with 1 inch height <br />difference. <br />Chau-man Burk read the request and administered the oath to Mr. and Mrs. Kukura. Building <br />Coimnissioner Conway advised that Mr. Kukura has now added one step, and after walkiug them <br />the inspector had advised that there was not a noticeable difference especially since there are only <br />tlu-ee steps, had there been more repetitions, it might have been a problem A permit was taken <br />out originally, but the problem with the steps was found during the final inspection. Mr. Kukura <br />explaiued that tlus is a very old house, is higla off the ground , and they had not figured this out <br />until the floor was installed in the addition. Mr. Conway explained that the addition was roughed <br />in before the doorway was opened up where there had beeu a window. Tliey would have to tear <br />out the drywall to see what could be done to correct the stairway. Mr. Kukura explained that <br />there is a support beam over the header wluch runs the whole length of the house aud he was <br />afiaid to cut it because it supported the entue back of the house,. Since the family rooin is <br />carpeted and wall papered, it would be almost impossible to coi7ect tlus without destroying the <br />work that has been done. Mr. Kazak stated that the steps do not - seem to be a big problem, but <br />the headroom might be. It was clarified that they need 80 inches headroom and they have 72.5. <br />Mr. Kuktua explained that this opening was to the bedrooins and he did not believe that any one, <br />other than the famuly, would be using it. Mr. Conway stated that everytlung else had beeu <br />approved in the addition. W. Piar moved to approve the request for Paul Kukura, 24095 Ehn
