Maloney moved <br />to grant the request of Men's Wearhouse, 25931 Great Northern Shopping Center, for a 22.5 <br />square foot variance for total sign area over that permitted for a business unit. Also to grant a 2 <br />inch variance for height of sign. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.11(c) and 1163.12(a). <br />The motion was seconded by W. Purper, and unanimously approved. Variance granted. <br />3. Great Northern Villa.ge Apartments 5264-94 Victoria Lane. y <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request 2 square foot area variance, request 1 foot height <br />variance for existing ground sign (no permit on record). Also request 3 foot height variance and 3 <br />foot location variance for proposed second ground sign. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section <br />1163.07(D). <br />ChairnLan Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was administered to <br />Mr. and Mrs. Schenzik, representing the owners. Mr. Schwartz, sign contractor, had been sworn <br />in earlier. Mr. Schenzik stated that there would not be two signs, the exiting sign would be <br />removed and the new sign would be placed in a different location. The new sign will be placed <br />where there is a directional sign now. Now only two variances are needed, one for height and one <br />for location. W. Purper moved to grant the request of Great Northern Village Apartmerits, 5264- <br />94 Victoria Lane for a 3 foot height variance and a 3 foot location variance for proposed ground <br />sign. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.07(D). The motion was 'seconded by R. Gomersall, <br />and unaniinously approved. Variances granted. <br />4. Koenig Sports 26339 Great Northem Shopping Center. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request 5 square foot variance for sign area allowed for a <br />business unit; request 31 square foot variance for maximum area allowed for a building sign; and <br />request 1 foot height variance to install wall sign. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.12(a). <br />Chairmau Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was adininistered to <br />Mr. Ernest, representing Koenig sports explained that since they had a 100 foot store front, their <br />architect planned a sign that would be in proportion to the frontage and the architectuxe of the <br />peak. It is a two part sigu, the "Koenig" is in block letters, and the "Sports" is in script. Mr. <br />Gomersall believed that the sign was too big. Mr. Ernest presented pictures of other signs that <br />are on the peaks of the shopping center and one in Macedonia which is a 5 foot high sign. Mr. <br />Koberna would not like to see a signage war with the sporting goods store ne}rt door. Mr_ <br />Gomersall pointed out that the code only allowed 4 foot high letters. Mr. Ernest responded that <br />only the letter "S" was higher than 4 feet because it was raised above the rest. T. Koberna moved <br />to grant the request to Koenig Sports, 26339 Great Northern Shopping Center for a 5 foot square <br />foot variance for sign area allowed for a business unit; a 31 square foot variance for maximum <br />allowed for a build.ing sign; and a 1 foot height variance to install wall sign. Violation of Ord. 90- <br />125, Sections 1163.12(a). The motion was seconded by J. Maloney, and unanunously approved. <br />Variances granted. <br />5.
