the architectural review board's suggestion they have included tree islands, designated as a land
banked spaces, at approximately every eighth parking space to include more green area on the west
side. Also at the a.r.b.'s suggestion, they have introduced additional entrances at the point where the
building jogs on both the east and west sides. He also presented a cross section drawing of the
building showing how the building would appear along the side elevation aud showing additional
siding material which will reduce the massiveness of the brick and will give the appearance of the
building stepping down, especially at the 5 story area. A memo from the North Olmsted Bus Lines
requested that they include a covered wallc way from the building to a bus stop as well as a lane for the
buses to pull onto the property. Mr. Mauuiug did not think an extra lane would be feasible since tlus
would elimiuate some landscaping and parking, but he believed that a covered walk way perpendicular
to the buildiug would be helpful. Mr_Brennan believed that a covered walkway would-take away from__
the appearance of the building. It was suggested that R.T.A. might install a bus shelter. Mr. Coury
advised that they provided transportation for all necessary trips, but not for social activities. He did not
know how many visitors would use public transportation, 'and estimated that one out of tluee
employees would drive. Mr. Coury agreed to meet with the Mr. Terbrack of the bus lines. He also
advised city has met with the Metro Parks regarding installing open retention on park property, but no
decision has been made; however, if the lake is not approved, they will provide their own retention on
their own property. Mr. Kaczmar advised that St. Clarence Church is committed to their project, but
they have indicated that they would have no problem with granting the easements that are needed in
case their developinent failed to go through. Mr. Zergott and Mrs. Krieger of the architectural review
board had reviewed the materials, lighting, and revised landscape plan. Mr. Kaczmar clarified that they
did not intend that this building should match St. Clarence, they only wanted a compatible brick, and
both samples shown would be compatible. In response to Mrs. Krieger's inquiry, Mr. Kaczmar
explained that the light bulbs would be inetal halide since they prefer a wlute light and he again assured
the members that all light would be maintained on their property. Assistaut City Engineer McDermott
advised that the Engiueering Department believed that the open retention would be workable. Mayor
Boyle arrived at this time and clarified that the city has not met with the Metro Parks recently but the
parks have agreed to the concept of the open retention on their property. Mr. Kaczmar explained that
the atrium would have a translucent panel system that would fully illuminate the interior of the space
and would propagate plant material. Mr. Coury believed that this would be a meeting place for the
residents and they might even be able to do some of their own planting. Mr. Kaczmar clarified for Ms.
Cameron-Alston that that the siding material would create a vertical element, that one of the two
colors of brick would be used with the white split face material at the head and sill of the windows to
give some texture to the horizontal band. He clarified that the structure of the building would be a
masonry wall bearing system with engineered masonry units to support the pre-cast planks that span
from wall to wall which would limit the kinds of brick that they could use. The trim on the building
and on the double hung windows would be white. There are two samples of brick, either of wluch will
be appropriate since the church is a blend of both colors. It was clarified that the architectural review
board did not believe that the court yard could sustain the plant material, and had mentioned after the
ineeting that they the building could be pushed together in order to get more green area around the
outside. 1V1r. Kaczmar believed that the bigger the court yard, the more fire safe the project will be. He
did not believe that the court yard would be that small and thought that there was a misconception as
to the height of the building. Mr. Conway stated that senior citizens rarely wanted to go outside, but
would congregate in an area like this. Mr. Kaczmar stated that they were also considering a gate at the
open end. It was clarified that the court yard would be fully open, but a key would be needed to get
2
