64 foot bam with a gambrel roo? 262 feet back from lus house, 20 feet from the Holmgren's property line.
He advised that the baiu will be used to store lus boat, tractor, and lawn and garden equipment. Later ou he
might want to have a couple of pouies or some animals. Mr. Anost is opposed to having anunals on the
property. Building Coinmissioner Conway advised that having the animals was uot a violation of the code.
Mr. Anost believed that the buildiug is a violation, and he is against granting a variance since it is a violation
of the present law. Another neighbor was coucerned that tlus would be used coinmercially and he might
raise pouies ou lus property. Mr. Jenkius stated that he did uot intend to raise pouies, he is not even sure he
is goiug to have pouies. Mr. Millie is concerned that the Fire I3epartment could not get to the bam if there
were a fire. It was clarified that Mr. Millie lived down the street. Another neighbor had no objectiou. Mr.
Revta, the son of a neighbor, stated that lus mother is objectiug to the magnitude of the building ( a letter
had been submitted to tlus effect). Mr. Jeukius presented pictures •of the area and pointed out that it could
uot be seen in the sununer, but it could be seen in the winter. He stated that he was trying to inake the bam
aesthetically pleasing and intended to save as many trees as possible and noted that there is akeady an
access trail back to the barn. Mr. Koberna believed that a two story building was excessive. Mr. Jenkins
needs some additional height for lus boat. Mr. Gomersall believed that he could store everything iu a 15 foot
lugh building. N1r. Malouey suggested a 30 by 60 foot buildiug. Mr. Jenkins would agree to a 32 by 64 foot
bam. The members preferred a 30 by 60 foot building wluch would be 1,800 square feet. Mr. Conway
ad'vised that there was a 440 square feet garage ou the property now. There is also a shed, but 1VU-. Jenkins
will reinove that. The meiubers aud Mr. Couway discussed what the height should be in order to have the
correct pitch. It was determiued that the roof would have to be at least a uiinunuin of 18 foot lugh. It was
agreed to a 20 foot height wlucli would be a 5 foot height variance. J. Maloney moved to graut the request
of T`homas Jeukins, 5717 Barton Road, for a variance to have a second, 30 by 60 foot garage on property;
to graut 1,490 square foot vai-iance for garage area. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1135.02(c)(3). Also
to graut a 5 foot variance for the height of the garage. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Sectiou 1135.02(c)(1). The
inotiou was seconded by R. Gomersall, aud uuanimously approved. Variauces granted.
14. Jolui Hohngren, 5695 Bai-ton Road.
Request for variauce (1123.12). Request variauce to have second detached garage on property. Request
1858 square foot variance for area aud 9 foot variance for height of secoud garage. Violation of Ord. 90-
125, Sections 1135-2(c) and 1135.02(c)(1). Note: existing two car garage to be reduced to 1-1/2 car
garage and one story and existing shed is to be removed.
Chau-inav Goinersall called all iuterested parties before the board. The oath was admiiustered to Mr. and
1VIi-s. HolLngren who explaiued that they have a different situation from the Jenkins next door who requested
a sunilar variance. He explaiued that they have several cars, including some collector cars wlucli they want
to store iuside. Nirs. Hohngren presented pictures of the cars and letters froin ueighbors advising that tliey
had no objection. N1r. Jenkius, who had beeu swom iu previously, stepped forward at tlus time. Mr.
Holmgren stated that bam would uot be seeu. His neighbors had told him that they would have no objection,
eveu if he did not reduce the existing garage or remove the shed. He needs a second floor for storage since
he will have 8 cars, a boat aud a trailer on the first. He presented the plaus to reduce the second garage. He
plans to remove the secoud floor reducing the size to have a drive to the barn. Mr. Gomersall asked if he
would agree to a 30 by 60 foot garage. Mr. Hohngren could uot understaud the board's reasouing since the
property wai7-ants a bigger buildiug, and there are no neighbors objecting. He would agree to the 30 by 60
foot, but he needs a secoud floor. Mr. Jenkins poiuted out that none of the neighbors who had objected to
lus proposal, had objected to structural height. Mr. Holmgren agreed and wondered why the board wanted
to reduce the height. Building Commissioner Couway advised that he has stated his intended use,.but a two
story build'uig, in the back of the property, would be veiy hard to police what might happeu in the future.
Mr. Hohngren protested because there are two other bams on the street that are just as big or bigger.
