Boulevard and have approximately 450 employees; MAC Systems expanded from approximately 30
people to over 100 people in Tech Park; Harsak has built an office building in the Industrial Park, and
are looking to building a second one; Bearings, Inc. stated that, while they stayed in downtown
Cleveland, North Olmsted was their second choice. Invacare stayed in Elyria, but stated North Olmsted
was their first choice; Mongello purchased the old fire station and is making office space there; Duke
Realty is planniug on building" an office near Moen; also he has heard a rumor that the Corporate
Center, after it was taken over by another person, which he believed was Duke, is now over 93%
occupied, and they heard before how diHicult it was to get people in there. He reminded the commission
that when they were looking at an extended stay hotel on Country Club Boulevard that their
representative stated they expected to get office people, and wherever they built they expected office
development to come in and they would get their business and Mr. Mauniug had to hear that twice. He
stated that he was not an expert, but he had lived in North Olmsted 30 years, and noted that Mr. Hill
helped the city with the zoning code, and at that time he never heard that this property should be zoned
for anythiug other than what it was. Mr. Tallon was part of that study. He noted that this parcel was not
suggested for retail in the Master Plan. The rezoning in 1989 had nothing to do with office buildings
being at their peak, it was to do with the hope of getting M. K Ferguson in North Olmsted. He does
not believe that North Olmsted is "going to hell in a hand basket" if retail is not increased, therefore,
increasing our taxes. He presented figures provided by the North Olmsted Finance Department.
Agricultural and residential is 66% of our income and there is very little agriculture in the city; all other
commercial is 24%; public utilities are 4%; and personal property paid by businesses on their inventory
is 6%; 82.74% (city income tax) is paid by the residents and all employees, does this sound like North
Olmsted is going down the tubes if we do not rezone to retail? He does not thiuk it does. He read a
portion of a new report mentioning Mr. David Eden, who lives in Beachwood and who was working
on this previously, which read "a company has abandoned controversial plans to bu.ild an assisted living
fa.cility for the elderly at Chagrin Boulevard and Stanton Road. Marriott Senior Living Services, Inc. has
pulled out of the agreement to buy 3 acres from the Suburban Temple. Suburban Temple yesterday
announced the' collapse' of the deal with the news release hand delivered to the neighbors who had
opposed the development. David Eden was so happy with the news that he took down his signs, hand
made signs, saying "sold out to 5uburban Temple"; "Save Our Neighborhood"; and `2Ceep Our
Marriott Out. He had decorated his lawn since Ju1y when he learned of the plan. He stated that here
there are people from out of town who do not want their neighborhood developed 'm that manner, but
they want to develop yours. Develop this city for the people who live here, do not develop it for any
one else. Ms. Kimberly Collins, 4785 Columbia Road, in the Jamestown Condominiums, who stated that she is
not an expert in anything except living in North Olmsted since she has lived here almost all her life. She
does not have a lot of statistics, she merely wants to say how much she does not want this to become
retail, because she does not want to fight anymore traffic than she is already fighting when coming home
from work and then look out her window at a Home Depot. We have a beautifiil city and has no
intention of living anywhere else, she moved away once and came back because she loved it so much.
She does not want to see any more retail moving into her back yard.
Ms. Pat Hansen, 4789 Columbia Road, unit 106, and has owned her condominium for eight years this
June, and has lived in North Olmsted since 1980. She has lived other places, but she likes it in North
Olmsted. She would like someone to tell her .if it is necessary to have another retail store in Nortlh
Olmsted. Because of where she lives; she could see lights from this development from all but one of he
windows. This will not affect her trees or shrubs, but she will see the lights. She has seen the
commercial that Home Depot is coming to town, she does not want. this to be what Wal Mart was. She
8
