Lendex eaplained that they have no plans to build other towers iu tlus area after tlus pole is installed
and tlus would allow theu- sigiial to travel for a inile aud a half radius and the other towers can pick up
from there. He explained that they had a tower in North Ridgeville to cairy the signal west. They
cannot have a lugher pole at the auport aud tlley cannot build towers too lugh or they would interfere
vvith other siguals. N1rs. Tuttle asked how they were conimunicating between North Ridgeville and the
airport without the tower in North Ohnsted. He explaived liow the phones work and clarified that his
phone would not work here. Mrs. Tuttle questioned why people with pacemalcers have been told that
they caunot use a portable phone and wondered why they were being told uow that it was not a
hazard. She questioned what another speaker quoted tliat this would bother young cluldren. Mr.
Lendex referred back to the document that was presented earlier and stated that it depended on the
type of phone and the frequency. He further advised that the tower would Ue built to the city standards
for safety. Mrs. Tuttle stated that she did not want to be susceptible to these dangers, and she believed
that everyone in the neigliborhood should have a copy everytliivg that is being presented to the board.
She was advised that the inforusation was on file in the Clerk of Couvnissions office.
Duriug the framing of the motion, 1V1r. Tallon asked if the developer had looked into camouflage for
the pole. He suggested tliat it could be camouflaged to loolc like a tree trwik to the height of the
existiug trees. He did not want it painted, he wanted it to loolc like a tree and there are companies that
do that. Ms. Del Valle also clarified that they are here only for the locatiou, they will return with the
building and other informatioii. It was clarified that tlus proposal should come back to the comnaission
with the landscaping and structure before being referred to the arclutectural review board. After
discussion with tlie Assistant Law Duector it was decided iiot to refer tlus to the bzd until after the
entire proposal is approved. R. Tallou moved to approve Neartel West Corporation, 26000 Lorain Road, proposal to construct 150
foot lugh monopole comnluuications facility on North Ohnsted Recreation Center property, with the
condition that the pole be 150 foot .maximum with uotliiiig aUove it except the lightning rod, it will be
centered on the recreation ceuter property so that it will be equi-distaut fi-oin the east and west
borders, and the 438 foot rear distance will be increased if it cau be aud will be located near the
approximate site of the old Cablevision autenua; the site will landscaped entu'ely so the site is not
visible from auy residential areas; the laudscapiug inust be approved by the city forester and the
architectural review board and no trees are to be removed from the property without permission from
the city forester; the pole itself will be camouflaged aud reviewed by the arclutectural review board,
and there will be no exterior lighting on the building. lt is to be clarified that this is only to approve the
location, and the rest of tlie proposal will be presented later. The motion was seconded by T. Herbster.
Roll call on motion: Tallon and Breuuan; yes. Ms. Camerou Alston and Mr. Herbster, no. Mr.
1Vlanning and Mrs. O'Rourke abstained.,
Assistant Law Director DuUelko stated tliat there is uo inajority so tlus will have to come back.
