I _
Request 2.6 square foot variance for total opening of windows and a 6 inch variance for total opening
window height in sleeping room
Violation of Section R 210.2
The oath was administered to Ms. Brazina who explained that she needed a variance for one bedroom
window which does not comply to code. She purchased the windows for the expansion of the dormer
last year when she replaced all the windows in her house, and she was not aware that the windows were
too small according to the code. She will be installing an in line fire alarm with a battery back up. This
will be placed right outside the bedroom door. She clarified that she is just expanding an existing
dormer so she did not think it would have to fall under the codes for new construction. Mr. Engoglia
stated that he had inspected the site, and had no problem with the request. The windows look good and
he believed that this would be a hardship since she would have to take a header offthe back just to
increase it 8 more inches. The members agreed.
P. Engoglia moved to approve the 2.6 square foot variance for total opening of windows and a 6 inch
variance for total opening window height in sleeping room, but this variance applies only to the
windows, and nothing eLse in the dormer. The motion was seconded by W. Piar, and unanimously
approved. Variances granted. .
2) Joe and Janet Conway, 25800 Kennedy Ridge Road.
Request .5 inch variance for length of riser on basement stairway.
Violation of Section R 213.5.
Mr. Spoerke advised that the steps are 8.5 inches long instead of 9 inches are required by code. He read
a letter from W. Conway explaiuing that no one who had used the steps in the past six months since
they have been installed has had a problem with them Mr. Engoglia stated that the caipenter did a
beautifiil looking job, but he could not understand why the stairs are different widths. Since they look so
nice, he believed that they should be left the way they are, but suggested that they install handrails on
both sides for safety. Mr. Conway agreed.
