?.
?.
stated that the Fire Department believed that the numbers were visible_and were not creating a problem.
However, the Building Department believed that any numbers installed in the future should comply wit'-
the code. Mr. Piar suggested larger numbers be installed on the greater setbacks. Mr. Elliott wanted ti
keep some uniformity of the numbers, but he would agree to putting larger numbers on the u.nits that set
farther back, since most are set closer to the street. He clarified that the siding had about three and three
quarters exposed area. If the letters get wider there might not be enough room on either side of the
placard to accomnaodate them, so he might have to get a longer placard. Mr. Elliott prefers not put the
larger numbers on any of the existing units, because the other neighbors would want them. Mr. Piar
was concemed that if the board approved the ones-that are earisting, and samething did happen out
there, there might be a problem that the signs could not be read in a storm. Mr. Elliott responded that
the letters are reflective and are on a black background, and the Fire Department has a search light so
the numbers would staud out. Tlus aiea is well lighted and on a photocell so the residents do. not have
the option- of tunung offthe lights. Mr: Kazak noted that many of their residents were older. After some
discussion, R. Burk moved that any units set back further than 50 feet from the street would have to
have conforming size numbers in exdsting section including phase 6 which is now under construction
and all of the numbers in the new section must conform to code. The motion was seconded by J.
Kazak, aud unavunously approved. It was clarified that the code requires that the numbers must be 3-
1/2 inches in height vertically and capable of being seen fiom the opposite side of the abutting street.
2) AliHamdan, 23521 Stonevbrook Dr. -
Request a variance to keep a dish already installed on the rear roof of the house.
Violation of Section 1367.03(b).
Chaii7van Burk administered the oath to Mr. Rani Hamdan, Mr. Ali Hamdan's son, who explained that
his father. was called out of the country because of a death in the family. He advised that they had a
satellite in the middle of the house aud they were asked to move it; so they moved it and put it on a
pole. Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk believed that it was originally installed on a chunney
aud then they moved it to a pole. Chairman Burk asked who did the work. Mr. Hamdan did not laiow
what compauy installed the dish, and Mr. Rymarczyk advised that no permit was issued. Mr. Hamdan
stated that the ordinance allowed 27 inch satellite and theirs was 24 inches. He advised that there is no
safety hazard and they have had no complaints from the neighbors. They had to cut dovvu a tree to get
reception. He clarified that tlus is the only way they can get their Arabic channels for the younger
children to leam their culture. Mr. Kazak wondered why, if they were told to move it, they did not get a
permit for the second installation. Mr. Rymarczyk advised that the violation notice stated that no permit
was taken out. Mr. Kazak noted that if the contractor had pulled a permit; they would have been told
wliere they could install it. Mr. Rymarczyk corrected what Mr. Hamdan said about the size since this
satellite is about one meter which is about 39 inches. Mr. Hamdan stated that his father lmew the
answers to all this, but he just received the news of the death late last night. The members believed that
this should be continued until the next meeting. It was clarified that this had gone to court, but had
never come before this board previously. The dish had apparently been on the chiinney and then ou the
pole, but Mr. Hamdan was not sure how many times they changed it. Mr. Kazak requested to table the
request, and he would like the company who installed the dish come in and explain what had happened.
He believed that they could probably get the dish on a pole somewhere where they would get reception,
so he prefened not to deny this toniglit. It was clarified that the contractor would have to be licensed
with the city. Mr. Hamdan was advised that the next meeting would be March 27th. Mr. Hamdan
agreed to continue the proposal.
2
