ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF REVIEW DECEMBER 17, 1986 PAGE 2
Mr. Thesling stated that the stairs are required for fire access, but
he does not believe that they are necessary since the slope of the roof
is such that the residents could get out easily in case of a fire. Mr.
Pattison suggested that they abandon the living quarters upstairs. Roll
call on motion: Pattison, Britton, and Case, yes. Mr. Ebin, no.
V. NEW BUSINESS:
1) Surban Glass and Tire, Inc, 23672 Lorain Road
Proposal to refurbish exterior of building. (Special permit granted by
Board of Zoning Appeals on December 3, 1986). (Heard by Planning Com-
mission December 9, 1986).
Mr. Purper, Jr. explained the exterior renovatione They will be closing
one garage door and adding two brown metal man-doors with yellow and brown
awnings over them. They will be installing cedar siding on the lower portion
of the front elevation only and will attempt to pressure clean the existing
orange glaze brick on the upper part of the front and on the east side of
the building; if the cleaning is not satisfactory they will have to paint
the brick. The remaining garage door will be replaced and painted to
match the b rick. Mr. Ebin would like to see to see the cedar treatment
on the sides of the building. Mr. Purper stated that the west and rear
sides of the building are not visible. He explained they will be instal-
ling some plantings (about 3' deep) between the door and the window and
between the window and the west end of the building. Mr. Pattison stated
that there is not enough information available for the Board to act on
the proposal other than to reject it and suggested that Mr. Purper return
next month after having.consulted with a professional designer. The
Board should see at least 2 elevations, a more exact color drawing,
photographs of the existing building, and exact plan for what they are
going to do regarding Planning Commission's suggestions regarding free
standing planters. He also expressed concern about a remodeling where they
will not be doing the entire property and is not sure how the end result
will look. Mr. Purper agreed to return.
VI. ADJOURNMENT :
Mrs.Case expressed her regret that Mr. Ebin has chosen not to accept another
term on the Board and thanked him for his valuable contributions.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
M.
