November 14, 1986
J. Burns, Chairman
Planning Commission
City of North Olmsted
5200 Dover Center Rd.
P1.Olmsted, 0. 44070
Dear Mr. Burns:
Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment upon the proposed
residential subdivision on Bradley Road, Permanent Parcel No. 233-4-1.
The Metroparks System is strongly opposed to the subdivision and develop-
ment of this parcel as proposed for several r.easons. This site is poorly
drained and is, in fact, under water for long; periods after heavy ra"ins and
snow melt. The shallow soils of this area retain surface water to an ex-
tent sufficient to require draining or filling to permit development.
It can be expected that, if developed for housing as proposed, a signifi-
cant concern for health will arise because of poor drainage and the endemic
high mosquito population. The Cuyahoga County Board of Health, over the
last decade, has found it necessary to investigate numerous cases of California
(LaCrosse) encephalitis which.it has determined are related to the Bradley
Woods area. The Ohio Department of Health considers the area to be one of
three in the state in which the LaCrosse virus is endemic.
For the above reasons, the Metroparks considers the property to be unsuitable
for the residential development/use purpose intended, and urges the North
Olmsted City Administration to determine likewise.
The Cleveland Metroparks System does not intend to cooperate in any way in
the development of this parcel for the type of development Proposed, and will
resist efforts to alter drainage and provide utilities to the site.
Sincerely,
*iefof Coles
SDC:PC rk Plan ning
Boarcl of Park Commissioners
Joseph P.
