ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF REVIEW MARCH 15, 1982 PAGE 2
shop. (Variance and Special Permit granted by the Board
of Zoning Appeals, March 3, 1982) Referred by Planning
Commission 3/9/82.
Mr. F. Leonard, Architect, explained that the building
would be completely renovated. The exterior will be
stucco board with cedar trim (Olympic stain 716), with
heather wood (brown) roof and Urick foundation. The rear
wall wa.ll 'be•"painted white to match the stucco. Roofs
will be added which will partially conceal roof top me-
chanical units. He is at,tempting to give a residential
look to the building. Mr. Parry was concerned about the
overhang at the drive thru window.since there is a problem
with some vehicles hittin.Q,the overhangs at these windows
in other restaurants. He sugges;ted shortening the over-
hang or extending the curb and moving the window out. In
reference to the site plan, Mr. Parry wants parking spaces
1& 2 angled to avoid backing out onto Lorain Rd. He was
also concerned if cars exiting from the drive-thru could
turn right onto 14hitethorn, without crossing over the
center line of the street. Mr. Leonard pointed out that
tfie--,sidewalks were on the property and that Whitethorn was
a narrow street and that there are problems built into the
property which the developers are now being asked to solve.
Landscaping will be periwinkle and winter creeper ground
cover and shrubs. The periwinkle will be carried out
under the shrubs alonry the east planting bed. Shrubs will
be kepts low along the sidewalk for visability. At present
there are tentative plans for a menu. board however only
the electrical wiring is to be installed now. Mr. Parry
requests that if such a board is to be installed it should
be no larger thean 2' x 2'. There will be 2 down light at
the drive thru window and one at each door. There will be
no parking lot lights and no roof light. All three signs
will be lighted. There will be no lighting planned for the
parking lot since it is a trinagular shaped lot and there
is sufficient lighting from the street lights. Mr. Parry
was concerned about the rear wall which is galvanized sheet
metal and is only to be painted, the paint is peeling now
and he believes that this will continue after it is repainted.
Mr. Parry thinks that this wall should be covered with the
stucco and flat cedar trim. Mr. Leonard thinks that this
wall can be prepared and repainted with a metal paint, and
that the shrubs will help conceal it. Mr. Leonard believes
that the cost of covering the wall with the stucco board
will be prohibitive and doubts that Spudnuts will be agree-
able to the extra expense. There will be no dumpsters, only
rubbish containers. It was suggested that the fence be set
back about 2 feet on the south side so that the fence will
wrap around the trash area. Mr. Ebin was concerned about
