r
B
ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF REVIEW JANUARY 19, 1981 PAGE 2
V. NEW BUSINESS:
(a) Red Head Gas Station (Ashland Oil Co.), 27447 Lorain Rd.
Mr. Schuette, representing Ashland Oil Co., explained
that there would be 2 pump islands with 4 pumps (8 dis-
pensers) under a canopy. A 6' by 8' pole sign will re-
place the existing oversized pole sign as stipulated by
The Board of Zoning appeals as a condition of the variance
granted for the canopy on December 3, 1980. The other
existing signs conform to the Ordinance. Mr. Parry sug-
gested that a thinner canopy supported by 4 columns.(in-
stead of 2), in a slate gray or a blue-gray would be less
noticeable than the proposed wliite canopy with a black
stripe. Mr. Schuette stated that this is their standard
canopy and that their Engineering Department would not
make a change in the structure. Mr. Parry responded if the
canopy could not be altered, removing the black feature
stripe would make some improvement, but that he would
still prefer the canopy to be a slate gray; and that then
changing the trim on the existing building to a slate
gray would make the two structure.s more compatible.
R. Parry moved to approve the Red Head canopy and sign
changes with the following conditions; 1) that the black
feature stripe on the canopy be changed to a white or that
the entire canopy and the black roof line of the Red
Head building be changed to a medium slate gray, and
that the landscape plan be approved as submitted, seconded
by M. Case, and unanimously approved.
After a brief discussion, the Board agreed to meet on the Monday
following the first Planning Commission Meeting of each month.
VI. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
M: Case, Chairwoman B. Oring, Recording Secretary
