<br />i , <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />MINUTES - JANUARY 9, 1979 <br />I. ROLL CALL: Chairman Roberts called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. <br />Present: J. Roberts, R. Bugala, W. Ohman, J. Brown, D. Ryan and <br />B. Gorris. J. Prokasy arrives at 8:10 p.m. <br />Also Present: Mayor Swietyniowski, Law Director Gareau, Building <br />Commissioner Gtmdy and Recording Secretary Oring. <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: <br />R. Bugala moved to accept the minutes of December 26, 1978 as sub- <br />mitted, seconded by J. Brown, and unanimously approved. <br />III. BUILDING DEPARTMEIIT REQUESTS: <br />Mr. Gundy presented Taco Bell Restaurant, 24247 Lorain Rd, resub- <br />mittal of signs from Architectural Board Tieeting 12/18/78. The <br />Commission reviewed the minutes of that meeting. Drawings and <br />pictures were distributed and studied. Mr. Gundy pointed out that <br />the Architectural Review Board had, at its May 15, 1978 meeting, re- <br />quested that Taco Bell redesign the pole, sign and submit a detailed <br />signage plan indicating colors, dimensions, and letters. The <br />Architectural Board approved the front wall sign only if the letters <br />are straightened out (not tipsy turvey) and reduced to only two <br />different colors for _backgroimd-and-letters, such as ye-llow on red. <br />The pole sign had been disapproved by the Architectural Review ' <br />. Board with the suggestions that it be enclosed in a rectangular sign <br />frame and colors be limited. (Mayor Swietyniowski administered <br />the oath of office to J. Prokasy for another term at this point). <br />Mr. Hixon, sign contractor for Taco Bell, advised the Commission <br />that the signs met all size requirements of the city and that this <br />was the national sign for the Taco Bell chain of restaurants. Mr. <br />Fred Shirley of Taco Bell advised that the company had no other <br />signs as far as colors and shape were concerned: Discussion <br />continued. Mr. Ryan moved that the Planning Commission recommend <br />? approval of the sign configuration of Taco Bell signs along with <br />the following recommendations, which had been recommended by the <br />Architectural Review Board that being: tfiat..the front wall sign <br />"Taco Bell" be reduced to 2 different background colors and that <br />the front lettering be of the same color and, also, that the pole <br />sign as presently presented be placed in a rectangular configuration <br />with the logo appearing within the rectangular configuration on the <br />pole sign and staying within the limitations of the code as to size. <br />Seconded by R. Bugala and approved unanimously. <br />IV. NE[J DEVELOPMENTS AND SUBDIVISIONS: <br />D. P1cDermott, Assistant City Engineer, introduced Groveland Garden
