i , CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES - JANUARY 9, 1979 I. ROLL CALL: Chairman Roberts called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. Present: J. Roberts, R. Bugala, W. Ohman, J. Brown, D. Ryan and B. Gorris. J. Prokasy arrives at 8:10 p.m. Also Present: Mayor Swietyniowski, Law Director Gareau, Building Commissioner Gtmdy and Recording Secretary Oring. II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: R. Bugala moved to accept the minutes of December 26, 1978 as sub- mitted, seconded by J. Brown, and unanimously approved. III. BUILDING DEPARTMEIIT REQUESTS: Mr. Gundy presented Taco Bell Restaurant, 24247 Lorain Rd, resub- mittal of signs from Architectural Board Tieeting 12/18/78. The Commission reviewed the minutes of that meeting. Drawings and pictures were distributed and studied. Mr. Gundy pointed out that the Architectural Review Board had, at its May 15, 1978 meeting, re- quested that Taco Bell redesign the pole, sign and submit a detailed signage plan indicating colors, dimensions, and letters. The Architectural Board approved the front wall sign only if the letters are straightened out (not tipsy turvey) and reduced to only two different colors for _backgroimd-and-letters, such as ye-llow on red. The pole sign had been disapproved by the Architectural Review ' . Board with the suggestions that it be enclosed in a rectangular sign frame and colors be limited. (Mayor Swietyniowski administered the oath of office to J. Prokasy for another term at this point). Mr. Hixon, sign contractor for Taco Bell, advised the Commission that the signs met all size requirements of the city and that this was the national sign for the Taco Bell chain of restaurants. Mr. Fred Shirley of Taco Bell advised that the company had no other signs as far as colors and shape were concerned: Discussion continued. Mr. Ryan moved that the Planning Commission recommend ? approval of the sign configuration of Taco Bell signs along with the following recommendations, which had been recommended by the Architectural Review Board that being: tfiat..the front wall sign "Taco Bell" be reduced to 2 different background colors and that the front lettering be of the same color and, also, that the pole sign as presently presented be placed in a rectangular configuration with the logo appearing within the rectangular configuration on the pole sign and staying within the limitations of the code as to size.
