SPECIAI, MEETING OF `PHE ZONING BOARll OF <br />9PPEALS OF THE CI`I.'Y OF ATORTH OLMSTED, OHIO <br />RE: PROPOSED SHELL OIL COv SERVICE STATION <br />MAY 199 1959 - 7a45 P.M. <br />Present: W. Lindsay9 W. Klinite and R. Parker. <br />Mr. Parker read the reasons for the rejection of application of the <br />former appeal' and a letter from the School Board stating no opposition <br />to the proposed gas station. <br />Nlrs. Callahan of P.T.A. spoke and stated that the P.T.A. had voted not <br />to oppose the erection. <br />Also present were: <br />Mr. McKinney - - - - - - Shell Oil Co. <br />Mr. Eckelman - - - - - - Attorney representing Mrs. Patton <br />Mr. Minnich - - - - ? - Assistant Attorney <br />Mary Alice Lynch - - - - Councilman Ward #4 <br />Mrs. Callahan- - - - - - P.T.A. representative <br />Mr. Folley - - - - - - Principal of Coe School <br />Mr. James - - - - - - 24037 Mastick Road <br />Nlr. Harold McGuire - - - Representative of the oi•mer of <br /> the proper-ty <br />Mr. John Douglas - - - - 24007 Lorain Road <br />Mr. A1 Erickson - - - - Shell Oil Co. <br />P1Lr. H. P. Rees -- -- Shell Oil Co. <br />Mr. Eckelman spoke of the limited uses of the property and stated that <br />it is ideally located for a service station or drive-in restaurant. He <br />spoke of the safety records applying to gas stations. <br />It was necessary for Mrsa Zynch to leave the meetin.g but before leaving <br />she stated that she was opposed to a gas station on this site. <br />Mr. Eckelman quoted from statements of Captain Roth and Mr. Hanna of the <br />Cleveland Automobile Club regarding their opinion of safety hazards of <br />gas stations. Opinions were that there were no more hazards from gas <br />stations than from any other comsnercial installations. <br />Nlr. Rees of Shell Oil Company quoted from Ohio Safety Council study re- <br />garding safety of gas stations. <br />A motion was made by Walter Lindsay that the appeal be approved and that <br />Shell Oil Company be permitted to erect a gasoline station at the North- <br />taest corner of Lorain Road and Columbia Roade Permit is to con.tain <br />restrictions as to operation of the station, as recomrsended by Mr. <br />Oviatt, Zats Director.
