from the SAAB sign. He reviewed that not all of his sites have ground signs and what signs they
do have are limited, once the SAAB sign is no longer needed it will be removed and the site will
have one ground sign. Mr. Gareau said a variance once granted runs with the site and placing a
timeframe on a variance is not practical nor is it recommended. It is up to the board whether or
not they wish to entertain the request. Mr. Raig said he doesn't object to reviewing the site again
as the signs are further apart. There are different forms of hardship when the owner is trying to
honor SAAB warranties even though they're out of business and at the same time trying to
repurpose the site as a different dealership. Ms. Diver said she wasn't comfortable voting on the
same variance which was denied. Mr. Lopez said most brand name establishments do not want
to share space or signs and the owner has worked hard to improve the site and establish a good
reputation by honoring SAAB's warranties therefore he doesn't object to the request. Mr. Raig
reviewed that Planning recommended the board grant the variance base on the circumstances of
the site. He feels it is a hardship for the owner to transform the property from what it was into
what it's going to be in the future and what it is in the interim.
Mr. Lopez moved, seconded by Mr. Raig, to grant CMS13-18; Mercedes-Benz Certified
Pre-Owned Center qf 28595 Lorain Road a variance for 1 additional ground sign; code
permits 1, applicant shows 2, Section 1163.27(a), which passed 3-1; Ms. Diver voted no.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business Ms. Rudolph absence was excused and meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
Laura Bellido, Vice Chair
onna Rote, C erk of Commissions
S/5-/? 5
?,ppd T
2
