Ms. Cossler said the Board of Education has shown a commitment to facilitate the building being
preserved. This is a construction project which has deadlines and from the schools' perspective
the request for the deadline of March 31, 2016 will ensure those deadlines can be met. If there
isn't a deadline placed upon moving the home it wouldn't be beneficial to the school.
Mr. Schumann said if the commission grants the COA to allow the building to be removed then
the building can be removed anywhere not just Frostville to ensure the building is preserved.
Mr. O'Malley said it should be worded removed for preservation at Frostville Museum. Ms.
Cossler said their application was a request to demolish the structure not preservation. She asked
if the school would be responsible to move the building if the historical society fails to acquire
the funds to remove the building. Mr. Schumann said that despite best intentions, if for some
reason the Society cannot manage the move by a reasonable date, the motion should be such that
the schools don't have to return to demolish the home. Ms. Wenger said she agreed as the
request has been before the commission in the past and it wouldn't be fair for the applicant to
have to return to address the matter again if the home isn't moved. Commissioners agreed there
should be a deadline date placed upon the certificate. Mr. Neville said this is a good opportunity
for OHS and the school district to work together and hoped that they could continue to partner in
the future on more projects.
Mr. Dubelko moved, seconded by Ms. Schuler, to grant a Certificate of Appropriateness to
15-4246: North Olmsted Board of Education at 27501 Butternut Ridge Road specifically
that the Thompson house be demolished by removing it and preserving it at the Frostville
Museum; subject, however, that the house be removed by April l, 2016, and, if not moved
by that date, then the School District may demolish it by razing it. Motion passed 7-0.
Landmark Recognition
Knight-Biddulph ceremony
Mr. Limpert said he met with the homeowner and he is open to having a public event. They
discussed having the event on November 21, 2015. They will have a similar flyer for the Knight-
Biddulph home as was used for the Seltzer home. He invited members to assist in working with
the elderly owner to prepare the home a week prior to the ceremony. A concern of the owner is
parking which the committee discussed and thought perhaps people could park at city hall and
take the water tower bus to the site. They also discussed possibly having a warm beverage to
offer as the weather will be cooler. He will confirm the November 21St date with the owner and
offer November 7th for the committee to help prepare the home for the tour. Once everything is
finalized the clerk can release the flyer to ensure a good turnout. Ms. Wenger said once the dates
are finalized she would create a Facebook event as well.
Bicentennial Updates
Historical Tour recap
Mr. Neville said OHS members enjoyed the event and felt it was a great turnout. Mr. O'Malley
reviewed the day's events and said the number of attendees was high, around 140. Mr. Limpert
suggested perhaps the barn hours could be modified to correlate with the event next time. Ms.
Wenger said an annual tour event could be a bit ambitious perhaps a tour every 5 years would be
2
