Applicant requests a variance for a pole sign; code does not
permit, applicant shows 1 pole sign, Section 1163.31.
The oath was administered to Mr. Haddad of Ellet Sign and Mr. Cammerata, Mr. Schrenkel, and
Mr. Malleo o£Lube Stop: Mr. Haddad reviewed his discussion with Zoning Inspector Peltz in
June 2014 regarding the need to pull a permit to change a face on an existing sign. They
proceeded with additional work which they felt was maintenance and repair which included
replacing the existing pole and while doing the work they were stopped and in November their
appeal of the commissioner's ruling was denied. They received a letter in December requiring
the site be brought into compliance which meant removing the sign or seek a variance. They feel
a pole sign is the best solution for the site. Mr. Malleo said he supports the request for the sign
variance. Mr. Cammerata said they take pride in being good members of the business
community and maintain their sites to ensure they are well kept. He asked that their variance be
granted so they could continue to do business. They believed that they were doing maintenance
to the pole sign before it became a hazard.
