the roll", referring to paper towels and toilet paper, and consider purchasing feminine hygiene
products, etc. Stephanie informed the group that a Metroparks staff inember informed her that
North Olmsted does not meet their "demographic threshold." James suggested that Stephy from
Parks & Rec is reaching out to the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center as an alternative.
Stephane further said that Spring Mist petting zoo has not responded to her inquiries, but
Barnyard Petting Zoo has expressed interest. She also mentioned that the Boy Scouts are
confirmed. Bill suggested that a supplemental activity could include older high school students
mentoring younger science fair participants on how best to work on their projects. It was also
suggested that a bike-friendly organization could have a table, Jackie will pursue that idea. Jeff
agreed to contact auto dealers to gauge their interest in showing eco-friendly cars. Kim
arbitrarily suggested a number of 4 cars, James suggested 5, JoAnn suggested 6 and was
immediately (and light-heartedly) shut down by Kim.
Suminer in the Citv
James shared what was discussed at the Suminer in the City subcommittee meeting. Laura is
actively reaching out to bands based on a list of performers the group agreed on: Welshly Arms
is unavailable, Ray Flanagan is tentatively available. She will keep everyone posted as more
bands respond. James is in charge of securing food/ice cream trucks and securing payment for
bands booked by Laura, and Bill is securing "halftime" internussion entertainment. The
subcommittee had the idea of booking young performers either through the local "School of
Rock" and/or NOHS students. This will provide an audience for young talents, and will likely be
free for the Commission. Bill, Kim and James will reach out to Robbie Anderson regarding his
sponsorship and interest in supporting other supplemental activities (cornhole, facepainters, etc.).
Event dates are June 19'', July 17ffi, August 21St from 6:00-8:30PM
NEW BUSINESS
2016 BOOM!
Kim shared updates on the newly-named fireworks celebration happening on July 3ra from 6-
11PM. The City has undertaken the majority of planning responsibility, but Commission
members are welcome to join if they want. The first meeting was held on Feb. 10, where the
following information was discussed: the new linear event area is along Country Club Blvd.
south of the JCP furniture store, music will be provided through Cleveland Music Group with the
stage on the west end of JCP furniture, 5 food trucks have been booked by James so far, pop and
water will be once again sold by community groups, and there will be concentrated PR effort.
Lauren suggested that the committee put out the word ASAP, as many residents are already
wondering if they will return this year. There is an interest in supplementary entertainment
(facepainters, balloon artists, sidewalk chalk artists, etc.), and the Commission was asked to give
their suggestions to James or Kim as they arise. JoAnn suggested the name "Sweet 16" for the
event, Lauren recommended that the group consider printing t-shirts for sale.
Misc. Items
Kim mentioned the art donations recently received by City Hall, will hopefully be hanging them
soon. There was mention of a potential mural on a blank city fence along Lorain Road near City
Hall, the group will continue to gather ideas before making any final decisions on what will be
done. It was agreed upon by the group that if the current "Taste of North Olmsted" group is
planning to hold an event this August, the Arts Commission will not duplicate that effort with a
