ONGOING BUSINESS
2017 Work Plan
Veterans Tribute - Early November
Lauren confirmed that her Forest School art teacher contact is excited about the potential for
Veterans Day craft. Lauren will bring a supply cost estimate to the October meeting so that
supplies can be approved and purchased well in advance of Veterans Day. Placemats or similar
crafts were agreed as a simple, high-impact option for primary students. Lauren stated that she
did not foresee the total cost amounting to very much at all, especially compared to other larger-
scale projects from earlier in the year. She also mentioned the possibility of Commission
members presenting the crafts to a local VFW post, similar to what she and James did for the
Valentine's Day crafts.
North Olmsted Noel - December 3
The group provided updates on their respective event areas. James confirmed that the Santa
performer was book on the 19th. Leah confirmed that she will be speaking with her Pine School
music contact to see about supplementing the professional music with a student performance.
James and Leah confirmed that they will be meeting before next month's meeting to discuss
vendors. James confirmed that he will send Janelle the hot chocolate instructions immediately
after meeting so she can review and be prepared. James confirmed that Ascension Lutheran
Church and Girl Scout Troop #717 are interested in staffing craft tables- he will follow up with
them before next month's meeting to confirm. Janelle has reached out to her contact regarding
the bonfire, with the group agreeing to provide the wood and other required materials. Janelle
also stated that she has not yet reached out to the SITES program, but will reach out to the Key
Club at Leah's suggestion. James confirmed that the sled dogs will be in attendance like last
year.
Jackie broached the idea of purchasing an exterior lighting display to use at the front of the park,
as well as other miscellaneous string lights for use on the building and Gazebo. It was agreed by
all that the options presented were well-researched and align with the stated mission of collecting
permanent lighting elements for use at future events. Sponsorship was brought up, but the group
agreed that this approach has historically fallen flat. Jackie also mentioned that the City Service
Department has graciously offered to install building and Gazebo lighting, so the Commission
should make every effort to assist in the installation when the time comes. James will research
the budget possibilities for exterior lighting and will report back at the October meeting.
Citv Hall Art Gallerv
Leah moved to approve Andrea Patrick's gallery application for display from November l st through
December 31St, seconded by Janelle. Motion passed unanimously.
DISCUSSION
General Programrnia?g Ianproveanents for 2018
James asked the Commission members to share their thoughts on 2017 programming strengths
and weaknesses in anticipation of an October brainstorming and prioritization session for 2018.
Comments included the need to revamp the Summer in the City concerts, focus more on lower-
