Jackie confirmed that her maintenance employee has already
installed lights around the patio, roofline and bushes.
NEW BUSINESS
2018 Work Plan
Kim stated that she supports the idea for a community art event, but it needs to be something
unique to the Commission that ties into the North Olmsted community. It was agreed by all that
JoAnn DePolo should be initially sought as an organizer for an event on February 9, but any artist
with local ties and capacity will also work. Jackie added that this programming could also be
done outside in warmer weather, such as at North Olmsted Park or other local venues. Kim stated
that a subcommittee will need to be formed to build this event immediately, as February is
already very close and there are many details to work out: venue, costs, supply purchasing,
food/beverages, etc. Annie and Lauren agreed to lead the way in developing this idea.
Kim added that she is also in support of the coffeehouse performance idea and would be willing
to help shape the event within a subcommittee. Leah stated that her recollection of the initial idea
included all types of performances: music, poetry or art presentations. It was agreed by all that the
art and coffeehouse ideas could be interchangeable in February and November as the work plan
progresses. Leah and Kim agreed to begin forming the idea in advance of the New Year.
The group discussed other 2018 programming items, focusing on a music and food festival in
July, Yoga in the Park events running from March through September, boosting existing Movie in
the Park dates and a community beautification event in May or June. The music event, name to be
determined, was tentatively scheduled for July 28th from 4-8PM in North Olmsted Park. Ideas
included local bands, food trucks, a beer tent, local vendors and potentially filler entertainment
provided by NOHS. James will confirm with Parks & Recreation that this date and time is open
and will schedule a designated planning meeting in December to build this idea. It was agreed by
all the Commission will seek to complement existing Movie in the Park events with family-
friendly activities, such as tie-dye t-shirts or games. Ideas for the city beautification project
included installing an "art garden" in front of the police station, painting trash can lids along the
bike path and painting a city-themed mural along the fence in front of the police station. James
will convene a subcommittee after Noel to nail down what one of these items will be
implemented.
City Hall Art Gallerv
Jackie moved to approve Eva Volf's gallery application for display from January lst through
March 15th, seconded by Annie. Motion passed unanimously.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
CZ.,", 1-?Ia- -
Lauren Suter, Chair
James Aspery, Planner
Approved: 12 f ZO(/1 '7
?
