i..f
18-12319; Gerber Collision; 26618 BrookAark Road Extension
Representatives: Bryan King, 45190 Telegraph Road, Elyria, OH
Proposal consists of signage. Property is zoned B-4 Mixed Use Business.
The following variance is requested:
1. A 1 ft. 10 in. variance for wall sign height; code allows a maximum wall sign height of 4 ft.,
applicant shows 5 ft. 10 in.; Section 1163.28(C).
Mr. Aspery said the applicant is requesting a variance to allow a wall sign 5 feet 10 inches in
height to be installed on the west elevation of the building. As stated in the applicant's cover
letter, the project was previously issued plan approval on July 17, 2018 for a compliant wall sign
3 feet 4 inches in height and 22 feet 10 7/16 inches wide. The area for the proposed wall sign
meets sign area requirements but will require a variance permitting the proposed sign to exceed 4
feet in height.
Mr. King, representative of Pattison Sign Company; stated that the sign company switched
project managers and the larger sign was already made and shipped to the Pattison Sign
Company. A new sign would cost $15,000. Mr. Aspery said the sign that was approved in July
was 76 square feet but the fabricated sign is 98 square feet so there is a significant difference in
area. Mr. Papotto ensured that the old sign on the building is building is still there, Mr. King said
it is. The other signs approved in July were the correct dimensions and have been installed. Mr.
King was not sure who made the mistake of ordering the incorrect sign. Mr. Papotto looked at
the request as if the applicant had come in prior to the signs being ordered and thought the
variance might be justified due to the location of the building. He thought the increased signage
might be better for wayfinding. Mr. Papotto also did not think that having the sign be remade
was worth it. Mr. Mackey said he had a hard time seeing the Suburban Collision signs that were
installed before. Mr. Rahm said the existing sign was difficult to see when visiting the location.
Mr. Raig said they already had approval for a sign and no one who made the mistake was there
to represent the case. Mr. Allain agreed with Mr. Papotto's arguments.
Mr. Allain moved, seconded by Mr. Papotto, to approve the following variance for 18-
12319; Gerber Collision; 26618 Brookpark Road Extension:
1. A 1 ft. 10 in. variance for wall sign height; code allows a maximum wall sign height of 4
ft., applicant shows 5 ft. 10 in.; Section 1163.28(C).
Motion passed 4-1, Mr. Raig voted no.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
4 ?
Mike aig, Chair
?
Nicole Rambo-Ackerman, Administrative
Assistant
Approved: ? ? 5 ??
