?
Mr. Papotto clarified that since the proposal does not have driveway access, it is classified as an
accessory structure. Mr. Allain was concerned that if this variance is granted, it would allow
three large structures on one parcel - a house, detached garaged and the barn. The applicant
wants to install a driveway since the ground is usually wet. Mr. Smik was interested in revoking
the 2012 variance if this one was granted. Mr. Gareau would need to look into an applicant
trying to abandon a previously granted variance. Discussion regarding the applicant being able to
expand the 2012 variance to avoid being given permission to build multiple large structures. Mr.
Gareau believed the applicant can try to enlarge the initial granted variance through another
application, as if the garage was built initially and they would want to enlarge the structure. Mr.
Gareau reviewed the options of the applicant: request a vote or revert back to the 2012 variance.
Mr. Smik wanted the board to go forward with the vote on the current proposal.
Mr. Allain was concerned that the building would be larger than a house. Mr. Mackey believed
the variance would allow a third large structure on the property. He believed the applicant did
not want to build two structures due to financial reasons. Mr. Papotto thought that there are quite
a few homes in the area that have structures of similar size, so it is not unusual. He pointed out
that the applicant was aware of the size concern when he built the home and requested the 2012
variance. He was not in favor of this proposal because of the possibility of being allowed a third
structure.
Mr. Papotto moved, seconded by Mr. Allain, to approve the following variances for 18-
10583; Stephen & Mary Smik; 5708 Mackenzie Road:
1. A 1,136 sq. ft. variance for an accessory storage building; code permits 400 sq. ft.,
applicant shows 1,536 sq. ft., Section 1135.02(c)(2).
2. A 4 ft. 8 in. variance for the height of the accessory structure; code permits 14 ft.,
applicant shows 18 ft. 8 in., Section 1135.02(c)(2).
Motion denied 4-0.
ADJOURNMENT
Mr. Papotto moved, seconded by Mr. Mackey, to excuse the absence of Mr. Raig, motion
approved 4-0.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:24 p.m.
icole R bo-Ackerman, Administrative
Assistant
Approved: t4I Z? 14t
