Mr. Schumann believed the plan was very nice and he thought the applicant did a good job of
hiding the addition from the right of way. He was not concerned about the shingle style change
since they will be more durable. Mr. Parry said the current siding is 11-inch wavy cement board.
Mr. Schumann believed the addition should be allowed to have vinyl siding due to asbestos
concerns. Discussion regarding vinyl siding alternatives, Mr. Bennett said hardie board and
Boral are expensive and need more preparation. The Pella windows will have a profile similar to
the existing windows. Ms. Cardarelli believed vinyl windows could affect the character of the
home but wanted the window profiles to match. Mr. Bennett stated that they would install
aluminum wrap trim to match the home. Mr. Morse appreciated that the proposal will have a
minimal impact on the original structure. He is not a fan of vinyl siding, but since it would not be
visible, he was not concerned.
Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by Mr. Dubowski, to approve the Certificate of
Appropriateness for an addition in the rear yard for 18-11850; Robert & Laura Parry;
27150 Bntternut Ridge Road as submitted, motion passed 6-0.
COMMUNICATIONS
.
Distr'icf-Mantpdates;
Mr. Aspery reviewed the different options for the historic district eligibility requirements
provided by Ms. Lieber: leave the wording as is (50% of structures would be at least 50 years
old), increase the age requirement (50% of structures would be at least 70 years old), replace age
requirement with qualitative criteria, or combine the current age restriction with qualitative
criteria. Ms. Cardarelli asked if the criteria would apply to landmarking a single structure also,
Mr. Aspery said it would not. Mr. Schumann pointed out that having the age limit of 50 years,
would allow a majority of the North Olmsted homes to qualify, so he thought the age
requirement should be increased. Ms. Schuler thought the age requirement should be removed.
Mr. Schumann wanted to wait until the next meeting to approve the changes to wait for other
member comments.
Ce?iteii?ia?l.;I?arn? Pra??ram .
Mr. Aspery asked that the commissioners send in their research by the September 17Ih meeting.
Mr. Morse was concerned about the time he will be able to devote to the research before then but
will review the information he has. Mr. Dubowski will review his information also.
Historv;'Fund: Grant
Mr. Aspery stated that the applications for the Ohio History Connection History Fund Grant are
due September Sth. Because of the limited time, the city is unable to apply for those funds. In
early 2019, the staff will look into eligible projects for CLG grant opportunities. Next fall, staff
may apply for funds to have the bus tour again. Ms. Egan-Reeves asked about the funding levels,
Mr. Aspery thought they would not be more than $50,000. He asked the commission to think of
other projects that may qualify for funding.
Records
